    Associate Professor Grade 4 - Health Sciences

    Job specification

    The duties and responsibilities entail:

    • Teaching, guiding and supervising students, conduct research and publish research findings for the academic excellence of the University and community as a whole.
    • Writing proposals to attract funds to support post graduate students and staff developmentin the University and building of existing body of knowledge.
    • Conducting research and disseminate the findings through publications, seminars, workshops, conferences for personal, community and institutional advancement.
    • Reviewing research and academic articles/journals to enhance and uphold quality needed in the research documents for effective teaching and learning processes to take place in the University.
    • Preparing and reviewing curricula and course contents for continual improvement to meet the ever changing needs and market demands.
    • Preparing course descriptions, course outlines, teaching aids, specimens and appropriate modes of delivery for effective teaching and learning process to take place.
    • Supervising and guiding young scholars and postgraduate students to ensure appropriate quality curriculum delivery and research output is achieved.
    • Forging collaboration with industries and other Universities both locally and internationally for students’ attachments and exchange program.
    • Establishing links with local and international communities for continuous transfer of knowledge and innovation for betterment of the society.
    • Serving in local and international committees to provide high level expertise for informed decision making to benefit the University as a whole.
    • Developing strategic policies and procedures that can guide in efficient training and learning processes and therefore contribute to realization of the University mandate.
    • Serving as external examiner in local and international Universities to enable exchange of ideas for academic excellence.
    • Assessing students during industrial attachment and teaching practice to ensure appropriate theoretical and practical application at the end of the course.
    • Acting as personal tutor and mentor, giving first line support to students.
    • Providing first line support for colleagues, referring them to sources of further help if required.

    Person Specification

    For appointment to this post, a candidate must have:

    • An earned Ph.D. or equivalent Degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university.
    • At least three (3) years teaching experience at the University as a Senior Lecturer Grade 5 or Senior Research Fellow/industry experience or equivalent.
    • A minimum of Forty (48) publication points as a Senior Lecturer or equivalent of which at least thirty-two (32) should be from refereed scholarly journals.
    • Supervised a minimum of four (4) postgraduate students to completion including at least one (1) doctoral student as Senior Lecturer.
    • Attracted research or development funds as a Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow.
    • Registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
    • International authority on a specialist field; acknowledged for his/her contributions to the development of principles, practices and research in the field across international boundaries.
    • Proficiency in computer applications.
    • Satisfy the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.
