Clinical Nurse, Blood Donor Unit at Aga Khan University Hospital

Responsibilities:

• Assess and determine donor eligibility accurately and in a timely manner
• Obtain consent for collection and testing of blood and for all related activities and investigations
• Evaluate and manage donor reactions and escalate appropriately
• Identify donor education needs and implement appropriate teaching
• Ensure tidiness and cleanliness of the blood donor unit is maintained
• Ensure appropriate storage of blood and blood products through monitoring storage temperatures and expiry date
• Ensure availability of appropriate working tools in the Blood Unit Unit
• Maintain up-to-date blood donor register
• Liaise with the National Blood Transfusion services to collect blood units
• Liaise with ward staff to arrange for blood replacement from volunteer donors
• Participate in Unit Based Nursing Education, Quality Improvement Projects, Clinical Care Program Certification, Audits, spot checks and skills checks

Requirements:

• KRCHN /BScN from a recognized school of Nursing or University
• Current Licensure with the Nursing council of Kenya
• Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS)
• Demonstrate evidence-based knowledge of current practices in nursing
• Demonstrate Leadership and management skills
