    Marine and Coastal Environmental Management Consultant

    Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Nairobi Convention Secretariat, the Consultant will be responsible for the following:

    • Work with the Project Coordination Unit in developing legal instruments (small-scale funding agreements) for in-country initiatives and activities.
    • Work with the SAPPHIRE Project Coordinator to develop Terms of Reference for various consultancies to undertake activities under the project.
    • Support the Terminal Evaluation Consultant in organizing meetings with Government representatives and stakeholders implementing SAPPHIRE project activities.
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on a regional ABNJ/BBNJ meeting.
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on a regional meeting of Implementing Partners and Focal Points for final reporting on demonstration projects.
    • Organise the technical components and write a report on the final Project Steering Committee meeting for the SAPPHIRE Project.
    • Work with the Project Coordination Unit, implementing partners and partners to finalize technical reports to enable closing of all financial obligations.
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on finalizing and agreeing on regional oil spill contingency plan
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on a training and capacity development workshop, focusing on the development and implementation of regional water quality guidelines.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (a Master's degree or equivalent) is required in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management or similar disciplines is required.
    • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience is required, working on regional marine and coastal-related projects at a technical level.
    • Demonstrated experience in Development/review of proposals for small-scale interventions in coastal ecosystems conservation, natural resources management (ecosystem management, climate change, community engagement, water resource management etc.) is required.
    • Demonstrated experience working with different stakeholders at both strategic and technical levels. Demonstrated ability to deliver quality assignments in a timely manner. Experience of working with the Governments of the WIO region is required.
