    Oncology Pharmacist

    Overall Responsibility

    • The Oncology Pharmacist is responsible for the preparation, verification, and safe dispensing of chemotherapy and other cancer-related medications. The role involves ensuring appropriate drug therapy, monitoring treatment regimens for safety and efficacy, educating patients and healthcare providers, and supporting the multidisciplinary oncology team to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

    Key Responsibilities:

    • Review oncology prescriptions for appropriateness, dosage accuracy, drug interactions, and patient-specific factors.
    • Prepare and dispense cytotoxic and other cancer-related medications in accordance with the safety standards and protocols.
    • Ensure proper handling, storage, and disposal of hazardous drugs in accordance with national and international guidelines.
    • Monitor and report adverse drug reactions and therapeutic outcomes.
    • Provide medication counseling to oncology patients regarding drug use, potential side effects, and adherence.
    • Educate clinical staff on chemotherapy protocols, drug updates, and safe handling procedures.
    • Maintain an updated inventory of oncology drugs and ensure timely procurement of essential medications.
    • Oversee stock rotation, expiry monitoring, and proper storage conditions for cytotoxic drugs.
    • Participate in regular audits to ensure compliance with quality and safety standards.
    • Assist in the development and review of oncology formularies, policies, and SOPs.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from a recognized institution.
    • Certification or specialized training in oncology pharmacy is preferred.
    • At least 2 years of clinical pharmacy experience; oncology experience is preferred.
    • Familiarity with chemotherapy protocols and handling of hazardous drugs is essential.
    • Valid practicing license from the Pharmacy and Poisons Board
