    Intern-Information Management

    Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Data identification and compilation from reliable/credible data sources on specific environmental themes using geospatial technologies.
    • Data management, analysis and visualization of environmental threats/emerging issues to supporting informed decision-making on environmental matters using geospatial technologies.
    • Support the map production process and map clearance requests and ensuring all cartographic documents as well as those disseminated via electronic means meet United Nations mapping rules and guidelines.
    • Assists with verifying that mandatory and special disclaimers are accurately applied in all required languages.
    • Supports adherence to UN naming conventions by confirming that country names, hierarchies, and label formats follow the UN Terminology Database (UNTERM) guidelines.
    • Assists with representing geographies accurately ensuring proper use of boundary lines, administrative divisions, and disputed areas using the prescribed line styles and mapping scales.
    • Supports the use of the latest UN Geodata by integrating appropriate datasets and statistical codes (ISO, M49) into map production.
    • Assists with selecting balanced map projections for global and regional maps, as well as integrating web-mapping services across platforms like Power BI, Tableau, and ArcGIS. Supports final quality control and documentation efforts to ensure every map complies with UN standards prior to publication. 9. Undertake other tasks as required by the office and in accordance with the intern's background.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
    • Be enrolled in a graduate school Programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher).
    • Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent).
    • Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within one year of graduation. Be computer literate in standard software applications. Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Field of study Degree in one or more of the sciences and /or a field relevant to the environment (for example, environmental studies, environmental economics, environmental assessments, environmental monitoring), Climate change and services, Environmental Studies, International Studies, Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Information Technology No working experience is required to apply for the United Nations Internship Programme. Your training, education, advanced course work or skills should benefit the United Nations during your internship.

    Marine and Coastal Environmental Management Consultant

    Under the overall supervision of the Head of the Nairobi Convention Secretariat, the Consultant will be responsible for the following:

    • Work with the Project Coordination Unit in developing legal instruments (small-scale funding agreements) for in-country initiatives and activities.
    • Work with the SAPPHIRE Project Coordinator to develop Terms of Reference for various consultancies to undertake activities under the project.
    • Support the Terminal Evaluation Consultant in organizing meetings with Government representatives and stakeholders implementing SAPPHIRE project activities.
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on a regional ABNJ/BBNJ meeting.
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on a regional meeting of Implementing Partners and Focal Points for final reporting on demonstration projects.
    • Organise the technical components and write a report on the final Project Steering Committee meeting for the SAPPHIRE Project.
    • Work with the Project Coordination Unit, implementing partners and partners to finalize technical reports to enable closing of all financial obligations.
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on finalizing and agreeing on regional oil spill contingency plan
    • Organize the technical components and write a report on a training and capacity development workshop, focusing on the development and implementation of regional water quality guidelines.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (a Master's degree or equivalent) is required in Marine Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Natural Resources Management or similar disciplines is required.
    • A minimum of 7 years of professional experience is required, working on regional marine and coastal-related projects at a technical level.
    • Demonstrated experience in Development/review of proposals for small-scale interventions in coastal ecosystems conservation, natural resources management (ecosystem management, climate change, community engagement, water resource management etc.) is required.
    • Demonstrated experience working with different stakeholders at both strategic and technical levels. Demonstrated ability to deliver quality assignments in a timely manner. Experience of working with the Governments of the WIO region is required.

    Communications Consultant – Sustainable Mobility Unit

    SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Under the overall supervision of the Programme Manager for Active Mobility, Digitalization & Transport Integration and in close consultation with focal points from the Sustainable Mobility team and Communications team the Communication Consultant will be responsible for the timely provision of key communication products. More specifically, the consultant will be responsible for developing:
    • Prepare 1 unit communication strategy for the ACCESS Digitalization project
    • Prepare 1 unit communication work plan for the ACCESS digitalization project
    • Develop 1 event/campaign calendar
    • Prepare a series of sustainable mobility articles (12 individual blog posts, web or other articles)
    • Develop 2 Issues of a unit newsletter
    • Prepare 2 Unit publication
    • Prepare 1 Updated event/campaign calendar
    • Prepare 1 Slide deck
    • Prepare 1 Unit campaign strategy

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Advanced university degree (master’s degree or equivalent) in journalism/communication, urban development, sustainable development, public policy, or a related field is required. A first level degree with additional two years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of an advanced university degree.
    • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in communication activities including support with developing communication strategies, workplans and campaign calendars development of communication materials and assets such as social media, presentations, fact sheets, blogs, slide decks, articles is required
    • Prior experience working for the United Nations, or an international organization similar to the United Nations is required.
    • Proven experience in the sustainable mobility sector is required
