Director of Pastoral Care at Greensteds International School

Job & Person Specification:

The incumbent will work within the Senior Management/Leadership Team to support the Headmaster in the effective running and development of the school. S/He will deputise for the Headmaster and will report directly to the Headmaster.

With the support of the Head of Junior School, s/he will take overall responsibility for the pastoral care, welfare, safety and personal development of every child, ensuring that every child is known, nurtured and supported to allow them to thrive.

The following outline gives an overall range of duties and responsibilities but is not exhaustive and the Director of Pastoral Care may be required to undertake such other duties appropriate to the post, as the Headmaster or Governing Body may reasonably require.

Pastoral Care:

• Oversight and overall responsibility for all pastoral matters within the Senior School and, with the support of the Head of Junior School, oversight of pastoral matters in the Junior School
• Leading the Dorm Masters and Mistresses and supporting their leadership of their Tutor Teams
• Oversight of pupil welfare and discipline in Senior School
• Oversight of PHSE program
• Oversight and development of the Tutor program linking with PHSE program
• To ensure appropriate standards of dress and appearance in accordance with the school rules
• Lead the school’s safeguarding / child protection provision and training, including taking on the role of designated safeguarding leader
• Oversight and monitoring of the School’s Behaviour Policy, including rewards and sanctions
• Liaison with external agencies related to pastoral care

Administration:

• Responsible for maintenance of accurate school registers
• Supervise planning, preparation, management and publication of the School Calendar
• Arrangement and publication of term dates
• Responsible for the arrangements for Speech Day, Christmas Dinners and other major events
• To ensure handbooks are up-to-date and prepared for circulation: Parents’ A-Z Booklet, Student and Teachers’ Handbooks
• Oversight, development and administration of school rules
• Review, collation and standardisation of all school policies (supported by SMT colleagues)

Staff:

• Line management of Heads of Dorms and Head of Sixth Form
• Organising and chairing pastoral leaders meetings
• Organisation of tutor teams
• To oversee and manage the delivery of the tutor program
• Pastoral liaison with Junior School

Communication:

• To oversee communications regarding pupils within the school to ensure clear channels of communication and follow up
• To monitor reporting to parents from the tutor / pastoral team

Finances and Facilities:

• Oversight of all pastoral budgets
• To monitor the condition of pastoral facilities alongside Heads of Dorms

Strategic:

• Leading the pastoral development plan for the school
• To assist with staff recruitment, in particular pastoral staffing needs
