    Chief Architect

    For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have;

    • Served  for a minimum period of three (3) years at the grade of Deputy Chief Architect, CSG 5;  
    • A Bachelors degree in Architecture or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized university in Kenya;
    • A Masters degree in architecture or its equivalent and relevant qualification from a recognized university in Kenya;
    • Be registered by the Board of Registration of Architects &Quantity Surveyors of Kenya;
    • Corporate membership with the Architectural Association of Kenya (AAK);
    • Attended a project development and management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks  from a recognized institution in Kenya;
    • Demonstrate high degree of professional competence and administrative capabil-ity required for effective planning, direction and coordination of building devel-opment programmes: and
    • A thorough understanding of national goals, policies and programmes and the ability to translate them to the quantity surveying functions.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Chief Architect will head the Architectural Directorate and is responsible to the Works Secretary for all activities of the Directorate comprising Architectural, maintenance, Research, Forward Planning Group and Surveying both at the Headquarters and in the Field. Duties and responsibilities at this level will include; 

    • Directing, coordinating and supervising  the human resource dealing with design, construction and maintenance of all public buildings;
    • Forming and implementing of architectural policies;
    • Approving drawings and advising the government on all building matters;
    • Implementing the directorate’s strategic objectives, preparation of the direc-torate’s performance contracts, mobilize team building;
    • Overseeing the financial and asset management issues of the directorate;
    • Instituting operational accountability and transparency;
    • Securing and managing financial support for development plans and overall su-pervision; and
    • Training and development of directorate staff.
