Consultant Pediatrician at M.P. Shah Hospital

Job Description

The Consultant paediatrician will be responsible for the clinical care of patients in the paediatric department and will report to the Head of department-Paediatrics. Clinical areas of coverage include management of acute Paediatric illnesses and emergencies, chronic illnesses and referrals, Infant and young child feeding as well as nutrition education for older children. Well-baby/well-child clinics for growth and development monitoring, and immunization tracking.

Key Responsibilities & Duties

1. Attending and managing acute paediatric cases and emergencies as well as chronic cases and referrals in the outpatient centre.
2. Facilitating inpatient admission and follow-up diagnostics, review and management of patients in the paediatric ward and newborn unit.
3. Conduct well-baby/Well-child consultations for growth and development monitoring, nutrition consultation and vaccination.
4. Provide Clinical education to patients and caregivers on common childhood illnesses, childhood immunization and nutrition.
5. Attend Newborn deliveries in maternity/Theatre department and follow-up care for all newborns until discharge from the hospital.
6. Provide breastfeeding support and clinical education regarding newborn care for mothers in the postnatal ward.
7. Organize and facilitate follow-up clinics for newborn patients.
8. Ensure all necessary documentation as required is done in a timely manner and recorded as per the Hospital policies.
9. Keep updated patients records in regard to acute or chronic illnesses, surgical procedures and other significant clinical encounters such as allergic conditions.
10. Provide supervision to junior doctors through supervised patient reviews and clinical procedures, case presentations and continuous medical education.
11. Keep abreast of advancements in Paediatrics and best clinical practices by attending seminars, conferences and relevant clinical meetings/CMEs
12. Actively participate in all clinical and administrative activities at departmental and institutional levels such as Hospital clinical committees, clinical drills, audits etc.

Requirements

1. A Master’s Degree in Paediatrics and Child Health from a recognized University
2. A Certificate of Registration from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
3. A valid practising license from the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board.
4. At least 3 years of clinical experience as a Paediatrician with in-depth knowledge and experience in clinical diagnosis and management of paediatric illnesses and emergencies.
5. Valid BLS & EPLS certification.
6. Demonstrated professional competence and managerial capability as reflected in work performance
7. Up to date knowledge of paediatric drug prescription standards and online prescription systems
8. Excellent communication and problem-solving skills, patient and calm
