Manager, Engineering Services at The Kenya BioVax Institute

Job Purpose:        

To manage the Engineering function with a purpose of ensuring efficient production of health products and technologies through management and maintenance of production utilities, infrastructure, equipment and machinery while ensuring compliance with necessary regulations and policies.

Requirements:

• A minimum period of ten (10) years’ experience in food or pharmaceutical manufacturing industry, three (3) of which must have been in a supervisory position;
• Bachelor Degree in any of the following fields: Mechanical, Mechatronic, Chemical & Processing, Electrical & Electronics, Biomedical Engineering or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Master’s degree in any of the following field: Engineering, Business Administration or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
• Professional membership to the Engineers Board of Kenya (EBK) or Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
• Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution; and
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results; and
• Meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the constitution.

Job Specification

Key Duties & Responsibilities

• Ensure optimum stocking levels of spares and consumables;
• Advising on key issues that impact the processing and engineering;
• Participate in Departmental Budget preparation
• Preparation and submission of periodic Board reports;
• Supervision of processing activities;
• Ensure proper equipment specification and verification of supplies are undertaken;
• Manage planned, routine, breakdown and preventative maintenance program on all production machines and equipment;
• Control and operate production utilities (including water, steam, compressed air, cold chains and Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) systems;
• Operate and optimize manufacturing machines and equipment;
• Design and improve manufacturing facilities;
• Maintain premises and infrastructure;
• Develop and implement engineering related procedures, documents and drawings;
• Control and store of engineering records and equipment manuals;
• Validate and qualify production equipment and facilities;
• Manage calibration programme for all equipment in the plant and Quality control
• Control of engineering spares/equipment spares and engineering workshops
• Supervise engineering contractors;
• Develops and implements engineering designs that improve efficiencies, increase capacity, and reduce costs;
• Develops plans for vendor acceptance testing and for on-site commissioning, qualification, and verification of equipment.

Terms of Service

• The successful applicant will be appointed for five (5) year contract term renewable subject to satisfactory work performance and retirement age.
