We are seeking a proactive and detail-oriented L1 Support Engineer with hands-on experience in VMware administration and Linux system management. The ideal candidate will be responsible for providing first-level operational support for our virtualized environments, assisting in troubleshooting, monitoring system performance, and ensuring adherence to change management processes.
This role is key in maintaining the stability, availability, and performance of our virtual infrastructure while ensuring compliance with organizational standards and ITIL best practices.
Responsibilities
Support compliance and audit activities by ensuring documentation and process adherence.
VMware Administration
Assist in the management and support of VMware vSphere infrastructure (ESXi hosts, vCenter).
Monitor performance and health of virtual machines, hosts, and storage components.
Perform basic troubleshooting for VMware-related incidents and escalate as necessary.
Support operations related to vSAN, DRS, HA, and vMotion.
Participate in scheduled maintenance activities and patch deployments.
Linux System Administration
Provide L1 support for Linux-based servers (RHEL, CentOS, Ubuntu).
Monitor server health, disk usage, and performance metrics.
Apply system updates and basic configurations under supervision.
Assist in automating repetitive operational tasks using Bash or Python scripts.
Change Management
Ensure all operational changes are logged, reviewed, and approved per the Change Management process.
Participate in CAB meetings and support implementation of approved changes.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date change records and rollback plans.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) and update knowledge base articles.
Prepare daily/weekly reports on system performance, incidents, and capacity trends.
Document root cause analysis for recurring issues.
Collaboration & Support
Work closely with L2/L3 teams, developers, and network/security engineers for issue resolution.
Provide first-level troubleshooting and escalate complex issues appropriately.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
1-3 years of experience in IT Support or System Administration.
VMware Certified Associate (VCA) or equivalent certification preferred.
Linux certification (RHCSA, LFCS) is an added advantage.
