Quality Assurance Specialist at Mars

Job Description:

The QA Scientist will be responsible for the Quality and Food Safety Management system in line with the Mars QMS standard and the FSSC 22000 Scheme. This includes design, implementation, training, verification, auditing and follow up of preventive and corrective actions.

This role is responsible for distribution quality across SSA Markets; this includes development and implementation of standards, auditing and driving continuous improvements with market units and distributors.

What are we looking for?

• A minimum BSc or equivalent Degree in Science/ Food Science or related area.
• A minimum of 3-5 years of experience in Food/ Pharmaceutical Manufacturing facility, where scientific principles have been practically applied.
• Technical depth and detailed knowledge of Quality Management, Food Microbiology, Food Safety,
• Experience in Auditing (QMS/HACCP/FSSC) and GMP/GHP is required.
• Project management experience would be advantageous.

What will be your key responsibilities?

Warehouses and Distribution:

• As the SSA technical resource in QID, you will be responsible for contributing to the development of and interpreting and application of quality standards relating to improving Q&FS in the supply chain, specifically between the factory gate and the retail outlet.
• Provide ongoing training, auditing of market warehouses and distributors and is responsible for driving CI, agreeing and verifying the completion of corrective and preventative actions to ensure compliance with Mars Q&FS standards.

Freshness & In-Market Quality:

• Define the requirement for measurement and reporting of Quality & Freshness information and ensure that this is met by all parties.
• Work closely with third party auditing company to ensure audits are conducted at the expected level of quality and accuracy and communicate any changes if needed.

Mars Standards and Quality Management System implementation (QMS):

• Ensure full compliance with Mars Quality & Food Safety standards in SSA Markets.
• Periodic reporting of Q&FS metrics for SSA Markets
• Cascade global FS policies, procedures and best practices to the team and ensure adherence to those practices.

Mars Food Safety Standards and FSSC 22000

• Site food safety team member and participate in development, implementation, maintenance, and updating the HACCP studies of the site.
• Support the development, implementation, and maintenance of site Food Defense plan as per corporate Food Defense standard and FSSC22000 requirements.

Internal and External Audits

• Participate in periodic site-wide Food Safety audits.
• Develop and deliver audit programs in SSA Market.

Regulatory/ Statutory

• Support SRA with product registrations and when required issuance of Finished Product CoA for export markets.
