JOB DESCRIPTION

We are seeking an Executive Director, based in Nairobi, to work with our teams manage Adanian Labs projects.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director (ED) will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for the Nonprofit’s staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. She or he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.

TASKS

Leadership & Management.

1. Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
2. Actively engage and energize volunteers, board members, event committees, alumni, partnering organizations, and funders.
3. Develop, maintain, and support a strong Board of Directors; serve as ex-officio of each committee; seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for the national rollout.
4. Lead, coach, develop, and retain high-performance senior management team.
5. Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
6. Allocate resources and supplies as to ensure staff and volunteers can complete their responsibilities to their highest potential

Planning & New Business

1. Design the national expansion and complete the strategic business planning process for the program expansion into new markets.
2. Begin to build partnerships in new markets, establishing relationships with the funders, and political and community leaders at each expansion site.
3. Be an external local and national presence that publishes and communicates program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national representation.

Requirements Experience, Competences and Experience

1. Master’s degree in majors such as international business, international relations, political science, and global affairs.
2. At least 5 years of senior management experience; track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff;
3. Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
4. Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
5. Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
6. Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, adaptable, and innovative approach to business planning

Job Responsibilities

Tasks

1. Analyze the needs of the user and design, test and develop the software to meet those needs
2. Recommend upgrades for existing systems and programs
3. Develop separate elements of software that work well in the program as a whole
4. Ensure continued functionality of a program during maintenance and testing of software
5. Write and test code, refining and rewriting it as necessary, and communicate with any programmers involved in the project
6. Research, design and write new software programs (e.g. business applications) and computer operating systems
7. Evaluate the software and systems that make computers and hardware work
8. Develop existing programs by analyzing and identifying areas for modification
9. Integrate existing software products and get incompatible platforms to work together
10. Create technical specifications
11. Write systems to control the scheduling of jobs or to control the access allowed to users or remote systems.
12. Write operational documentation with technical authors
13. Maintain systems by monitoring and correcting software defects
14. Work closely with other staff, such as project managers, graphic artists, UX designers, other developers, systems analysts and sales and marketing professionals
15. Consult clients and colleagues concerning the maintenance and performance of software systems, with a view to writing or modifying current operating systems.
16. Document each aspect of a system or application as a reference for future upgrades and maintenance
17. Revisit the development process to fix bugs or address client or consumer concerns
18. Continually update technical knowledge and skills by attending in-house and external courses, reading manuals and accessing new applications.

Requirements Experience, Competencies and Experience

1. Bachelors Computer Science, Information Technology or related course of study
2. 6+ years in developing and implementing software applications
3. Previous experience as a software programmer.
4. Advanced knowledge of programming languages including JavaScript, HTML5, C++, Java, SQL, and PHP.
5. Knowledge of system frameworks including .NET, Git, AngluarJS, and GitHub.
6. Experience creating and maintaining databases.
7. Good interpersonal skills.
