    Fellow, Adult Clinical Neurology, Department of Medicine

    Job Summary

    • The Neurology fellowship is a 3-year sub-specialty training program for individuals who have already completed a Master of Medicine residency training in Internal Medicine. It is modelled on the equivalent British 2013 curriculum and adapted by the NFC for the East-Africa context. In addition to the Nairobi-based experience, there are 6 months in year 2 under adjunct faculty in the sister hospitals (AKH-Kisumu and AKH-Dar), and 6 months in year 3 in external pre-ratified institutions, including the Medical Training Initiative (UK). An optional research-focused fourth year may be available, depending on the availability of funding from grants. The program will entail extensive inpatient and outpatient supervised clinical experience. The graduating fellows will have expertise at the subspecialty level in the broad range of adult clinical neurology. The fellow will also do a clinical research project which should be submitted for publication prior to completion of the program, and also publish one other case series.

    Responsibilities

    • Clinical work that is part of the responsibilities of neurology training are as per the curriculum, includes, but not limited to:
    • Inpatient neurology clinical service, including the JCIA-accredited stroke pathway
    • Inpatient neurology consultations under neurology faculty supervision
    • Outpatient general neurology clinics (and monthly outreach general internal medicine)
    • External rotations as per curriculum
    • Organization and administration of teaching for residents and other trainees
    • Active participation in internal and external neurology-related seminars and conferences
    • Research to include submission of manuscript(s) for publication
    • Participation in neurology-related committees, such as neurosciences MDT, neurooncology rounds and mortality/morbidity meetings
    • Contribution to neuro-critical care ward coverage

    Requirements

    • Completion of Internal Medicine residency (Master of Medicine – MMed)
    • Registered by the Kenya Medical Practitioners & Dentists Council, or eligible for registration if non-Kenyan (must be completed before start of the program).
    • Excellent communication skills
    • Able to work in a team i.e. the immediate neurology team, the wider care team in the hospital, faculty, residents and many other colleagues
    • A focused, motivated, self-driven and curious learner
    • Demonstrate honesty, integrity, compassion and respect for diversity and applies ethical principles appropriately in all settings

    Urology Surgeon, Department of Surgery

    Job Summary

    • The Department of Surgery is seeking an Urologist to coordinate and monitor high quality educational programme; contribute to scholarship; and provide exemplary clinical service in line with the departmental practice plan for the delivery of quality urology services to patients and their families.

    Responsibilities

    • Assisting residents in their rotation and implementing and monitoring educational programmes while ensuring programme outcomes are attained.
    • Assisting in the setting of examinations and ensuring formative assessments of the residents/interns are duly filled.
    • Promoting and facilitating residents’ research, participating in scholarly activities including educational and clinical research and facilitating the publication of residents’ research work.
    • Generate audits from clinical practice to align with expected clinical outcomes.
    • Provides pre-determined clinical service; outpatient and inpatient.
    • Establish clinical services aligned to areas of interest and specialization and attending to emergency cases as and when required.
    • Prepare a schedule of regular clinical teaching activity.

    Requirements

    • Applicants must have a Master of Medicine or its equivalent.
    • S/he must be registered or eligible for registration with Kenya Medical Practitioners’ & Dentists Council as a specialist.
    • Should have a minimum of 3 years’ clinical experience at a reputable institution.
    • Should have a minimum academic position of Instructor.
    • Should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Should have experience in leadership roles in medical education and clinical fields.
