ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

• This is a supervisory position and the appointee shall be expected to provide academic/research leadership to members of lower academic/research grades. Appointment is a three (3) year renewable performance-based contract, depending on age, citizenship, and any other reason; e.g. appointment to a specific research programme.

Academic Qualification

• Must have an earned PhD or equivalent degree qualification in the relevant field from an accredited and recognized university.

Experience and Responsibility

Must have:

• At least eight (8) years of continuous/cumulative full time university teaching or research experience; three (3) of which MUST have been as a Senior Lecturer or Senior Research Fellow level.
• Since last promotion to Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow supervised a Doctoral student.
• Attracted research or development funds as Senior Lecturer/Senior Research Fellow.
• Attended or contributed at learned conferences, seminars or workshops.
• Evidence of continued research and/or effective teaching.
• Show evidence of academic leadership in his/her area of specialization through joint research and publications.
• Must be registered with the relevant professional body (where applicable).
• Evidence of leadership (administrative experience, active participation in departmental/school/university/institutional activities as well as international/continental/regional /national /local/community activities).

Skills

• Leadership and coordination at institutional, departmental, school and community level.
• Teaching and /or research and supervision of undergraduate and graduate students.
• Proposal, report and research paper writing.
• Design and develop academic programmes and curriculum

Publications

Must have published since last promotion any of the following:

• Four (4) articles in referred journals for Associate Professor and six (6) articles for Associate Research Professor OR
• One (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area published by recognized publishers, plus two (2) articles for Associate Professor; and one (1) refereed book in candidate’s professional area plus four (4) articles for Associate Research Professor OR
• Two (2) distinguished exhibitions or performance of original creation plus two (2)/four (4) articles in a refereed journal for Associate Professor and Associate Research Professor respectively OR One (1) patented invention/innovation (recognised by National or International body) plus one (1)/three (3) article for Associate Professor and Associate Research Professor respectively OR Two (2) review articles plus two (2)/four (4) articles in refereed journal for Associate Professor and Associate Research Professor respectively OR
• One (1) International Academic/Research award plus one (1) or three (3) articles in refereed journal for Associate Professor and Associate Research Professor respectively.
