This is the entry grade into this cadre. A Driver at this level will work under the guidance of a designated officer.
Job Specifications
Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:
- Driving a motor vehicle as authorized;
- Carrying out routine checks on the vehicle's cooling, oil, electrical and brake systems, tyre pressure, etc.;
- Detecting and reporting malfunctioning of vehicle systems;
- Maintenance of work tickets for vehicles assigned;
- Ensuring security and safety for the vehicle on and off the road;
- Ensuring safety of the passengers and/or goods therein;
- Maintaining cleanliness of the vehicle;
- Reporting accidents promptly and following up on police abstracts; and
- Inspecting vehicles and keeping up-to-date insurance documents.
Job specifications
For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have: -
- Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education mean grade D (plain) or its equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution;
- A valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class(es) of vehicle(s) an officer is required to drive;
- First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one (1) week at St. John Ambulance or Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution;
- Certificate of Occupational Trade Test III for Drivers;
- Defensive Driving certificate from a recognized Institution;
- At least two (2) years driving experience; and
- Proficiency in computer applications.

Successful candidates MUST satisfy the requirements of Leadership and Integrity set out in Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya, 2010 and shall be required to present the following documents before the offer letter.
- Tax Compliance Certificate from Kenya Revenue Authority (TCC);
- Certificate of clearance from Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI);
- Dully filled and stamped Self-Declaration/Clearance from the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC); and
- Clearance certificate from approved Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
