    Global Advocacy Lead Consultant

    Deliverables

    • The Key deliverables will be:
    • Advise and support in the delivery of the thematic advocacy goals through
    • Providing technical inputs for the development of the thematic portfolio advocacy strategy connecting the national, regional and the global advocacy goals in alignment with the portfolio plans and in coordination with the thematic leads
    • Establishing key strategic relationships with the United Nations mechanisms
    • and other global spaces that are relevant for progressing the thematic portfolio advocacy goals
    • Contextualising relevant thematic content/research data into relevant advocacy messaging and other documentation such as submissions, statements, and others
    • Lead in the delivery of influencing the child rights/child welfare sector to place children and families as expert rights holders and agents of change
    • Developing the broader child rights/child welfare advocacy goals with necessary thematic intersections as relevant
    • Mapping global opportunities relevant in forwarding Family’s advocacy strategy
    • Identifying and developing key strategic relationships with relevant United
    • Nations mechanisms and other international organisations, global platforms in order to forward Family’s advocacy goals and strategy
    • Analysing international commitments and generating key advocacy content to position Family’s arguments for global advocacy strategy driven by local CSO leadership and local solutions
    • Contextualising relevant content/research data into relevant advocacy messaging and other documentation, and linking with thematic content, where relevant, for submissions, statements, presentations and other advocacy opportunities
    • Coordinating and participating in global advocacy platforms to position Family’s advocacy goals
    • Identify and connect relevant Family members to relevant advocacy opportunities (this could be broader than the priority thematic areas and linked to individual member expertise on certain issues
    • Advise and support the delivery of realising the CSO leadership in international AID sector (Decolonisation)
    • Advising and supporting the Decolonisation group in the development and delivery of the decolonisation strategy and plans
    • Mapping relevant global advocacy opportunities relevant for positioning
    • Family’s model of CSO leadership and local knowledge
    • Supporting in managing strategic relationship relevant for achieving Family’s decolonisation goal
    • Providing technical support for developing key advocacy messages as relevant to various advocacy opportunities for influencing local leadership
    • Coordinating and participating in relevant global opportunities to support the CEO and members
    • Supporting member leadership and monitoring and evaluation
    • Advising and supporting members in representing Family in various global and regional advocacy platforms in line with promoting local CSO leadership and in close coordination with the Thematic leads, Director of Alliance
    • Programmes, Director of Fundraising & Communications and the CEO as relevant
    • Monitoring and report on the changing international advocacy contexts relevant to Family’s positioning, opportunities and risks
    • Coordination with the Communications Team for the development of communications materials for relevant advocacy opportunities/events.
    • Supporting and coordinating with the Secretariat and alliance members for the effective delivery of Family’s advocacy goals
    • Supporting the planning of the advocacy activities

    Time frame

    • The timeframe for this consultancy will be for a period of 12 months with an expectation of the consultant to work for approximately 2.5 days per week over the 12 months, based on an agreed work plan at the start of the assignment which will be periodically reviewed. The consultant will be expected to start at a date to be confirmed but most likely this will be in May 2025.

    Expected level of experience / skills

    • Educated to UK Degree level (international Level 6) or equivalent qualification ideally in advocacy, international development, social work, psychology, sociology, childhood, gender studies or a related subject
    • Relevant postgraduate qualification in advocacy, international development or other related subject e.g. social work, psychology, sociology, childhood, gender studies
    • Comprehensive and proven experience in a similar role delivering global advocacy at a senior level within an organisation or as a consultant
    • A strong understanding of the international development sector, and knowledge of key issues in child protection, child rights and child care across diverse contexts
    • Understanding of the role and potential of networks and coalitions, including the work and strengths of national CSOs and INGOs, practitioners and policy makers, to bring about social transformation
    • Experience of managing multiple processes and diverse workstreams
    • Knowledge of good practice in advocacy work with vulnerable groups to achieve impact, and how this can be used effectively for long term change
    • Experience of helping facilitate participation within a member-led network or alliance, preferably of CSOs
    • Strong knowledge of global care and protection issues and emerging trends and knowledge in regards to these areas
    • Experience of working within a network organisation
    • Experience of working remotely and independently
    • Prior experience with demonstrated success in delivering global advocacy and working with the UN and other international bodies and mechanisms to achieve change
    • Extensive experience of designing, developing and implementing global advocacy strategies and plans; also linking to national and regional advocacy opportunities, as relevant
    • Good understanding of decolonisation of the international and humanitarian sector and localisation agenda; with particular relevance to the child rights sector
    • Sound understanding, knowledge and existing relationships with relevant networks, existing child rights global collaborative spaces, United Nations mechanisms and other global platforms linked to child rights/child welfare and/or broader development sector
    • Experience of analysing and producing powerful and relevant advocacy materials and tools to support in the delivery of advocacy goals
