Nurse Anesthetist at St. Theresa’s Mission Hospital

Purpose:

To provide comprehensive care to patients, link them up with the appropriate multidisciplinary teams and offer exceptional follow-up care.

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Deliver safe general, spinal and block anesthesia/ Epidural anesthesia to patients requiring surgery and administering epidural for labour
• Explaining the benefits and risks of various Anesthetic techniques to patients and obtaining informed consent.
• Deliver local anesthesia patients requiring minor surgery.
• Perform pre-operative detailed evaluation and assessment of patients scheduled for surgery.
• Keen and close intraoperative monitoring of patients vital observations and organ function according to ASA standards and guidelines.
• Close post-operative patient follow-up in the recovery unit and ward.
• Responsible for the maintenance of standard antisepsis in the operation theatre.
• Ensuring detailed perioperative documentation
• Attending to emergency cases and timely response during resuscitation and instructing and supervising KRNA students during clinical rotation.
• Identify patient care requirements by establishing personal rapport with potential and actual patients and other persons in a position to understand care requirements.
• Resolves patient problems and needs by utilizing multidisciplinary team strategies.
• Maintains safe, clean and sterile working environment by complying with procedures, rules and regulations, calling for assistance from health care support personnel.
• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies.

Applicants Qualifications, Experience, Competencies and Attributes

• Higher Diploma in Anesthesia from a recognized institution.
• Diploma in Nursing or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Have a Certificate of Registration from the Nursing Council of Kenya
• Valid Professional Practice License from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Have a Certificate of Registration from the Nursing Council of Kenya;
• Minimum of 2 years of clinical experience in Theatre Department.
• Must have a valid BLS and ACLS certificates
• Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
