Registered Nurse II - (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit) - 3 Posts at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital

Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Nurse In-Charge, Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU), the position holder will be responsible for the following:

• Providing specialized nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients in PICU, ensuring continuous monitoring and timely interventions.
• Assessing and recording vital signs, hemodynamic parameters, and neurological status to detect changes in patient condition.
• Administering prescribed medications, fluids, and nutrition accurately, including intravenous and enteral therapies.
• Operating and monitoring advanced life-support equipment such as ventilators, infusion pumps, and cardiac monitors to maintain optimal patient care.
• Collaborating with pediatric intensivists and multidisciplinary teams to implement individualized care plans.
• Responding promptly to pediatric emergencies and participating in resuscitation and stabilization procedures.
• Maintaining strict infection prevention and control measures within the PICU environment.
• Documenting all nursing interventions, observations, and changes in patient status accurately in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).
• Educating and supporting families on PICU care processes and discharge planning to promote continuity of care.
• Any other duty as may be assigned.

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

• Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)/Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN) from a recognized institution.
• Higher Diploma in Paediatric Intensive Care Nursing, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Training certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) will be an added advantage.
• Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Valid practicing license as a Paediatric Intensive Care Nurse from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
