Registered Nurse II – (Pediatric Oncology Nursing) at Kenyatta University Teaching, Referral & Research Hospital

Duties and responsibilities
Reporting to the Nurse In-Charge, Paediatric Oncology Unit, the position holder will be responsible for the following:

• Providing specialized nursing care to pediatric oncology patients in accordance with hospital standards and oncology protocols.
• Administering prescribed therapies and medications safely, while monitoring for adverse reactions and treatment-related side effects.
• Assessing and documenting patient conditions, progress, and response to treatment accurately in the Hospital Management Information System (HMIS).
• Preparing patients for oncology procedures and providing post-treatment care to ensure recovery and comfort.
• Educating patients and families on treatment plans, symptom management, and home care practices to promote adherence and well-being.
• Collaborating with oncologists and multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement individualized care plans.
• Providing emotional and psychosocial support to patients and families throughout the treatment journey.
• Maintaining strict infection prevention and control measures to protect immune-compromised patients.
• Participating in oncology research, continuous professional development, and quality improvement initiatives.
• Any other duty as may be assigned.

Key Qualifications and Experience Requirements

• Diploma in Kenya Registered Community Health Nursing (KRCHN)/Kenya Registered Nursing (KRN) from a recognized institution.
• Higher Diploma in Paediatric Oncology Nursing, or its equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
• Certificate in Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) will be an added advantage.
• Registration by the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Valid practicing license as a Paediatric Oncology Nurse from the Nursing Council of Kenya.
• Proficiency in computer applications.
• Compliance with Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution.
