Job Description
- The Senior Principal Lecturer I, KEWI 3 reports to the Senior Deputy Director, Academic Affairs KEWI 2.
Duties and responsibilities at this level entail:
- Coordinating the development of curriculum, training manuals and teaching aids;
- Facilitating the review of teaching/learning materials and schemes of work;
- Coordinating lecturing in the area of specialization in accordance with the syllabus;
- Generating plans and strategies for the Academic research and Curriculum Development functions;
- Advising the Institute on the curriculum needs of the labour market and industry;
- Ensuring moderation of examinations;
- Ensuring supervision of trainees’ projects and practical work;
- Facilitating research and publishing papers, proposals, journal articles and books;
- Spearheading the implementation of guidelines for students with special needs;
- Initiating student academic mentorship programmes;
- Organizing and conducting in-service and orientation and training programs for curriculum implementers;
- Coordinating the development and implementation of new methods of instruction;
- Contributing to professional conferences and seminars;
- Coordinating symposiums and related activities on emerging areas of interest in the water sector; and
- Benchmarking with relevant organizations to adopt best practices in training.
Job Specifications
For appointment to the grade, an officer must have: -
- Served for a cumulative period of fifteen (15) years relevant work experience three (3) of which must have been in the grade of Senior Principal Lecturer I or in a comparable position;
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant lecturing field in any of the following disciplines: Water/Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Irrigation Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Land Surveying and Social Science, Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences, Environmental Science, Economics, Commerce, Education from a recognized University;
- Master’s degree in a relevant lecturing field in any of the following disciplines: Water/Civil/Mechanical/Electrical/Irrigation Engineering, Hydrology, Geology, Hydrogeology, Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology, Land Surveying and Social Science, Physical Sciences and Natural Sciences, Environmental, Science, Economics, Commerce, Education from a recognized University;
- Certificate in Training of Trainers (TOT) course lasting not less than six (6) months from a recognized Institution;
- Membership to a relevant professional body and in good standing where applicable;
- Leadership course certificate lasting not less than four (4) Weeks from a recognized Institution;
- A valid practicing certificate where applicable;
- Proficiency in computer applications; and
- Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.

In addition to the above indicated requirements, applicants will be required to meet the requirements of Chapter Six (6) of the Constitution of Kenya on Leadership and Integrity.
The following clearances will be required from successful candidates upon offer of job and not at the application stage.
- Certificate of Good Conduct;
- Clearance from the Ethics and Anti – Corruption Commission;
- Certificate of Compliance from the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB);
- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) Tax Compliance Clearance; and
- Certificate of Clearance from the Credit Reference Bureau (CRB).
