    Mountain Biodiversity Specialist

    Under the guidance and supervision of the Programme Management Officer (project manager for Vanishing Treasures):

    • Coordinate the delivery of milestones and indicators under phase 2 of the Vanishing Treasures project’s Bhutan component (Outcome B) according to the appropriate logframe/workplan, including:
    • organization of related workshops and meetings, data collection and analysis, and pilot work, where relevant;
    • consultation with partners and experts;
    • identification of national and regional policy planning instruments for upscaling of available solutions;
    • contributing to the development of concepts for targeting suitable financing mechanisms.
    • Successful coordination of activities (e.g. organized side events, provision of advocacy material tbc) within the context of implementation of the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, for the overall purpose of mainstreaming mountain biodiversity-related issues on a global level including organization of relevant meetings, side events and provision of advocacy material in follow-up to relevant CBD COP decisions;
    • Participate and contribute to relevant meetings with a strong focus on mountain biodiversity including preparation and review of relevant background material and other meetings;
    • Contribute to UNEP´s work focused on mountains within the context of the UN Decade on Ecosystem Restoration, especially on analyzing the specific context and conditions for ecosystem restoration in mountain regions as well as respective recommendations, and overall support of relevant flagships on ecosystem restoration in mountain regions;
    • Develop project concepts/ funding proposals and relevant initiatives with a strong focus on mountain biodiversity targeting identified funding mechanisms.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A first-level degree (Bachelor or equivalent) in environmental sciences, environmental/natural resource management sciences, or research and management is required.
    • A minimum of five (5) years of relevant professional work experience in the field of project management at the national and/or international level or other relevant programmes including mountain biodiversity-related are required.
    • Experience with international NGO’s and state authorities and other stakeholders as well as working experience in the Asia-Pacific region specifically, is desirable. Experience working in the UN or other international development organizations with a strong focus on environment is desirable.

    Youth Officer

    Specific tasks and responsibilities 

    • The consultant is expected to work closely with UNEP staff to perform the following:
    • Work with partners to conclude activities of TTPC phase 5.3.
    • Work with Oxford University in conducting evaluation and doing research on Tide Turner programme results.
    • Work with partners in delivery of quarterly and final reports to donors due in June 2025.
    • Work to implement the TTPC in Bhutan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh.

    Additional areas of project assistance include:

    • Work with UNEP India office to implement the YEA unit higher education agenda - Nature Positive Universities, as required.
    • Work with UNEP India office to implement the YEA unit non-formal education agenda.
    • Work to enhance fundraising efforts by YEA unit - to identify, share information on potential donors/ partners at national/regional level.
    • Work to expand of the non-formal YEA agenda in India, including Sport for Nature, Playing for Planet as required.
    • Work to consider the evolution of TTPC in South/South East Asia - Final Phase 5.3

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Master’s degree in communications, social-science or psychology, international relations, political science, commerce, or related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with an additional 2 years qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • At least three years of professional experience in project management and youth programs.
    • Ability to deliver highly complex projects of a global nature efficiently and effectively.
    • Excellent oral and written skills; excellent drafting, formulation, reporting skills.
    • computer literate in standard software applications
    • Self-motivated, ability to work with minimum supervision; ability to work with tight deadlines and in a demanding work environment. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
