    IT System Specialist

    JOB PURPOSE: 

    This is a senior level position for this opening. Creates and maintains overall Enterprise systems plans to support the organization’s business strategy, agrees service level agreements with customers and plans all aspects of the infrastructure necessary to ensure provision of Enterprise systems services that meet such agreements.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Creates and maintains Enterprise systems plans for the programme, contributes to setting service level agreements, and plans the infrastructure necessary to provide the Enterprise systems services to meet such agreements.
    • To implement and administrate Enterprise applications
    • To provide preventative maintenance of the IT Enterprise systems
    • Manage Incidences, Problems, Events and Service requests, Raising Change Requests to transit resolves to technology problems. Transiting technology products in the Service Portfolio, retiring and replacing them at the end of the lifecycle.
    • To ensure all Enterprise applications are configured correctly with regard to security patches, security policies, software versions, security configuration, and recoverability
    • To ensure Information security management is maintained for IT assets confidentiality, availability and integrity against threats and vulnerabilities
    • To ensure all Enterprise systems are backed up correctly and to carry out regular test restores
    • To carry out project-based work to implement new solutions
    • To provide 3rd line support for the IT Support Technicians as and when needed
    • Review and report through Project Management software tasks on IT infrastructure projects
    • Ability to build an architectural schema of the Enterprise Systems
    • Provide direction on outsourced Enterprise Systems consultancies
    • Ability to model Enterprise for disaster recovery and testing for audit purposes.
    • Contributes in IT policy making process
    • Assist the Infrastructure manager in developing enterprise system utilization and optimization plans
    • To develop monitoring and alerting dashboards for enterprise systems

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Degree level in Engineering or Computer Science or BSc IT and experience of least 5 years progressively from IT Support Engineer position or equivalent. 3 Years’ experience at the Supervisory level is an added advantage
    • Masters Degree is an added advantage.
    • Excellent customer support and communication skills
    • Experience of supporting a 20+ mixed Operation System server environment
    • Experience of installing and supporting Windows 20xx, 7, 8.x
    • Multisite Active Directory support and management
    • Knowledge of installing and configuration of a Microsoft Exchange Server 201x, Microsoft Lync, DHCP, DNS, radius and GPO support and management
    • Good understanding of: Enterprise systems, firewall concepts, network based storage solutions, and server hardware
    • Ability to develop architectural diagrams to illustrate infrastructure layout
    • IT Security certification (CISSP/CISM.)

    Desirable

    • MCSE Server Infrastructure (Must give evidence of the exam certificate done by an authorised testing body, i.e. Pearson VUE, Prometric, etc.)
    • Knowledge of configuring Microsoft Hyper-V
    • Experience of working in a research establishment
    • Supporting a multi-subneted, VLAN network environment
    • Microsoft SQL server support
    • MySQL database support
    • Knowledge in unified communication technologies.

    Research Officer

    JOB PURPOSE: 

    To contribute to the social science research agenda within the HSRE department, including empirical ethics and health policy and systems research in global health, with a focus on Kenya. Areas of this work are conducted as part of international research collaborations. The post holder will implement an area of work that looking at ethical issues in mental health research. This will include review of published and grey literature, and contribute to the planning, conduct and dissemination of findings of the stud and other social science studies (quantitative and qualitative) in relation to key areas of research in the department. The broad areas of departmental focus are global health research ethics and health policy and systems research. Empirical ethics research foci may include impact of COVID-19 on research, approaches to community engagement in research and concepts of vulnerability in research. 

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • To review and summarise issues from the published scientific literature in ethical issues for involving people with intellectual disability in health research, with a particular focus on psychosis, ADHD and autism
    • To review and summarise national and international guidelines or policy documents relevant related to this area; and to update this as needed over time.
    • To undertake specific empirical ethics stud on ethical, social and cultural issues with mental health research, articulating how local and (inter-) national guidelines could best take account of these
    • To contribute to the development and ethical conduct of specific areas of social science research at KWTRP, including planning, tool development and data collection and analysis for quantitative and qualitative research, and writing scientific papers and blogs around current areas of work.
    • To contribute to the dissemination of information from the study, including through the preparation of reports, blogs and manuscripts for publication, making presentations at scientific meetings and feeding back to participants in the consultation exercise.
    • Where indicated, provide training and support to other research team members / collaborating partners in areas within these responsibilities.
    • And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time. 

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • MA or MSc in relevant subject such as Social Science (related to health), Public Health, Anthropology, Bioethics,  Nursing, or equivalent.
    • Bachelor’s degree in related areas such as Nursing, Social Science, anthropology or related fields.
    • At least 3 years of health research experience, ideally including experience in collecting and analysing qualitative and quantitative research data.
    • Experience in conducting qualitative and empirical ethics research on mental health research will be an advantage.
    • Computer literacy with proficiency in Microsoft applications and software for quantitative and qualitative analysis.

    • The work environment will include both office and field-based tasks.
