    Programme Support Intern

    This Internship position is located at the UNEP office in Nairobi, Kenya, with the intended purpose of supporting the Ecosystems Division programme coordination and management. Under the direct supervision of the Chief, Programme Support Unit, the intern will:

    • Assist in keeping under review the Division's project implementation progress and reporting through the Ecosystems Division Project Portfolio Dashboard and Integrated Planning, Monitoring and Reporting (IPMR).
    • Support in keeping under review the project's cycle management, including operational closure
    • Assist in data entry, validation and accuracy of project-related information in IPMR and in the relevant databases and systems. • Assist in analyzing the status of financial implementation through available information systems.
    • Assist in quality assurance review of publication concepts and full publications by ensuring alignment with the UNEP Publishing Policy and Guidelines.
    • Assist in tracking publications and concepts clearance process in the on publications system and update the quality assurance process in the Publications Master file and in the online tracking tool.
    • Provide flexible and ad hoc support to unit functions, as and when required.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • Applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
    • be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
    • be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's degree or equivalent).
    • In addition to: Be computer literate in standard software applications.
    • Applicants should have good knowledge of standard software applications, especially MS Word, MS Excel, MS PowerPoint, and MS Teams.
    • Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter.
    • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.
    • Excellent written and spoken communication skills are required.
    • Bachelor’s Degree or currently enrolled in a bachelor's Programme. Background in, Statistics, Project Management, International Relations, International Business Administration or another related field

    Programme Management Officer, P3

    Responsibilities

    • Development and management of corporate funding agreements: Conducts research and supports development of new concepts and instruments for receiving flexible funding for the organization.
    • Prepares new corporate funding agreements and revisions of current agreements in line with the requirements of UNEP and the funding partners.
    • Coordinates, consolidates and reviews funding proposals related to corporate funding agreements in compliance with internal quality control and requirements of the funding partners.
    • Monitors the implementation of the corporate funding agreements and submits timely reports to management and funding partners;
    • Monitors and analyses programme/project implementation related to corporate funds; reviews relevant documents and reports; identifies problems and issues to be addressed and proposes corrective actions; provides guidance to project managers on both programmatic and financial aspects; identifies and tracks follow-up actions.
    • Research, analysis and reporting on organization's funding and funding partners: Researches, analyzes and presents information on the organization’s funding, income patterns, related estimates, and on funding partners.
    • Coordinates automation of income information and reporting using platforms, e.g. Power Business Intelligence.
    • Gathers, researches and analyses information on the organization's funding needs for development and maintenance of pipeline of funding proposals.
    • Contributes to preparation of various written outputs relating to resource mobilization including presentations, e.g. draft background papers, analysis, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications.
    • Assists in policy development for resource mobilization, including the review and analysis of issues and trends, preparation of evaluations or other research activities and studies.
    • Undertakes survey initiatives; designs data collection tools; reviews, analyzes and interprets responses, identifies problems/issues and prepares conclusions.
    • Contributes and provides responses/information to audit queries from Board of Auditors, Office for Internal Oversight Services and other oversight queries relating to income.
    • Development and management of relationships with funding partnerships: Supports bilateral consultations and other meetings including drafting agendas, identifying and proposing participants, preparing background materials, handling logistics and preparing meeting summaries.
    • Prepares responses and communicates with funding partners related to their contributions to the organization.
    • Oversees the invoicing and receipting for funds managed by the Section including ensuring that all requisite documentations are prepared and shared with the funding partners.
    • Participates in the development of Client Relationship Management systems and tools including Umoja Extension 2 Fundraising module.
    • Undertakes outreach activities; conducts training workshops, seminars; makes presentations on assigned topics/activities in support of improved coordination in the organisation for resource mobilization.
    • Collects and analyzes data to identify trends or patterns and provide insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods to enable data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.
    • Performs other related duties as required

    Education

    • Advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, finance, or related field is required.
    • A first-level university degree in combination with two (2) additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
    • Successful completion of both degree and non-degree programs in data analytics, business analytics or data science programs is a desirable.

    Work Experience

    • A minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in project or programme management, administration or related area is required.
    • A minimum of two (2) years of experience at the international level is desirable. Work experience in donor relations is desirable.
    • A minimum of two (2) years or more of experience in data analytics or related area is desirable
