    Gender Coordinator

    Tasks

    • Coordinate and take a leading role in the development and implementation of the Project Gender Equity and Social Inclusion Strategy. (GESI)
    • Coordinate all Gender result activities for CARE Kenya under the SHE SOARS Project to ensure the project achieves its gender outcomes.
    • Oversee the development, update and implementation of the County SHE SOARS GESI Action plans as well as the GESI strategy including support to the Strategic partners Capacity Building plans.
    • Ensure mainstreaming of MEAL approaches in the MEAL system design and implementation with support from the SHE SOARS MEAL Coordinator and CARE Kenya Program Quality and Accountability Manager.
    • Facilitate participatory processes with project’s partners for the development and implementation of the gender strategy.
    • Support gender related tools development, testing, and management that will ensure timely and user-oriented gender related data collection and reporting.
    • Promote and support the dissemination of gender related Program information among the Program team.
    • Represent CARE Kenya and the WVL Project in various gender meetings, networks and opportunities to support the project.
    • Liaise with the gender advisors in CARE  Kenya, Uganda and Zambia Cote d’Ivoire to share models, tools and best practices for the project.

    Education/Training

    • E.g. high school diploma; college degree (specify major/minor); specialty (ex. Accounting). Include the following phrase when possible: “or equivalent combination of education and work experience.”
    • Education:
    • Degree in Social Sciences, Gender and Development studies or other relevant discipline.
    • Excellent written, verbal English and presentation/communication skills.

    WASH Infrastructure Engineer

    Project Development and implementation

    • In consultation with the County Government, undertake technical and feasibility assessment of the community priorities for water infrastructure development for people and livestock.
    • Develop project and implementation plans for WASH activities against planned completion time and ensure that technical activities are completed on time.
    • Supervise the Development and rehabilitation of climate friendly and gender sensitive  water supply Infrastructure 
    • Providing technical inputs in capacity strengthening of community-based water management structures including water committees on O&M of completed water systems. 
    • Spearhead field needs assessment including Baseline surveys in WASH and Livestock water supply activities and determining most technically appropriate water supply and sanitation options. 
    • Lead preliminary hydro-geological and Topo-surveys for water infrastructure in close liaison with County Government’s Water department. 
    • Ensure successful completion of construction works with submission of completion certificates to the Contractors.
    • Think creatively and introduce innovative approaches to WASH program implementation, including the use of new technology, methods, and approaches to improve the quality of the activities.
    • Coordination and Representation
    • Represent the Anticipatory Action project, County Disaster Risk Reduction forums consisting of relevant county departments directorates
    • Strengthen teamwork with project team, County Government, other partners and communities. 
    • Co-ordinate/liaise with County Government departments on technical issues relating to water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) livestock water supply and environmental management activities.
    • Bachelor of Science in Civil and Structural Engineering, Water Engineering, environmental engineering. 
    • 3 years progressive relevant working experience in rural community water projects.               
    • Experience in design and supervision of piped water schemes, Infiltration Galleries, Shallow Wells, Earth Pans, Sand dams and boreholes 
    • Experience working in multi-cultural (particularly pastoralists in Northern Kenya), multi-disciplinary staff will be an advantage.
    • Willing to work and live in difficult and demanding locations
    • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D and/or other water design software e.g., EPANET, HECRAS.
