  • Embu Water and Sanitation Company (EWASCO) Limited was incorporated as a company by Embu Municipal Council in March 2003. The Company became operational in March 2005 and the financial operations of the Company were separated from those of the Municipal Council in July 2005. After devolution the Company is wholly owned by the Embu County Government. Water supply network coverage in 2005 was 23 km2 out of 80 km2(29% coverage) and has increased to 775 km2 in 2017 out of 975 km2(79.5% coverage).     Senior Accountant

    Reporting to the Head of Finance and Commercial Services the successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring professional management of the company’s resources, preparation and availability of all financial reports, budgets of revenue managements.

    Key Responsibilities

    Supervise work activities of the Financial Accountant

    Operational Responsibilities

    • Coordinate preparation of bank reconciliations.
    • Coordinate maintenance of supplier’s accounts i.e. posting their invoices and reconciling their accounts.
    • Coordinate maintenance the vote book and ensuring compliance to the budget’s allocations.
    • Monitor the company’s bank balances and advising the Finance Manager on the same.
    • Prepare monthly section reports for management use.
    • Review and recommend customer adjustments in their bills.
    • Verity postings by staff in the Pastel system.
    • Undertake continuous professional development to keep us with industry trends.
    • Prepare and submit timely reports and information for decision making.
    • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned.

    KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED

    Key Qualifications and Experience

    • Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting or a related Business degree
    • Intermediate professional qualification in either CPA (K) or ACCA
    • At least 7 years relevant working experience with 3 years in a managerial position

    Operations and Non-Revenue Water (NRW) Manager.

    Reporting to the Head of Technical Services, the successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all water distribution activities including plant operations, NonRevenue Water management, quality assurance and maintenance of minimal levels of water wastage.

    Key Responsibilities
    Managerial Responsibilities

    • Provide direction and coordinate in the management of water distribution, sewerage, quality assurance and management of non-revenue water functions.
    • Provide sound leadership and supervision to the staff in the department.
    • Ensure the adequacy and allocation of working tools and resources for all the functions.
    • Participate in preparation of the department’s Prepare comprehensive annual budgets.
    • Ensure compliance with approved budgets including prudent and timely spending.
    • Undertake performance management for the section.
    • Ensure timely reporting of sectional performance.
    • Ensure sound systems, policies and procedure for effective functioning of the department are in place.

    Operational Responsibilities

    • Prepare designs and bills of quantities for various projects.
    • Develop plans on reduction of water wastage.
    • Ensure set targets in regards to water distribution, NRW and plant deliverables are met.
    • Develop and submit proposals on water distribution related projects.
    • Develop and maintain networks with key stakeholders to facilitate effective technical operations including relevant government and private institutions.
    • Anticipate by studying operating targets, modes of operation, section limitations and monitoring unit performance, and put in place measures to mitigate identified operational problems.
    • Improve operational quality results of the supervised functions by studying, evaluating, and recommending process re-design and relevant appropriate changes to designs, works, work flow and modification of teams.
    • Determine operational priorities by assessing operational objectives and determining project objectives, and ensure maintenance of efficiency, cost saving, safety, environmental quality and timeliness in meeting the laid down objectives.
    • Identify operational problems through monitoring and evaluating the various functions supervised, observing and studying system functioning and performance results, investigating complaints and suggestions, and feedback from process supervisors and operators, and undertake troubleshooting procedures.
    • Maintain safe and healthy work environment for all functions supervised by enforcing standards and procedures both internal and statutory.
    • Requisition and facilitate supply of requirements to facilitate operations.
    • Collect, analyze, compile and submit reports as required.
    • Undertake continuous professional development to keep up with current engineering and operating trends.
    • Undertake any other duties as may be assigned.

    • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Water Engineering
    • At least 10 years’ experience, 3 of which should be in a managerial position.
