Duties and Responsibilities

An officer at this grade will be required to independently initiate and implement research projects; Duties and responsibilities at this cadre will include:- problem identification; formulating research project/ proposals; study design; implementing research projects; engagement in inter-disciplinary research; preparing technical reports and scientific publications; using other methods to disseminate research findings in their areas of specialization; providing guidance to junior research scientists/interns in their areas of expertise; and any other duties as may be assigned from time to time..

Requirements for Appointment

For appointment to this grade, a candidate must have:

• Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) with a minimum grade of C+ (Plus) or equivalent;
• Bachelor’s honors degree or equivalent degree in any of the following fields: Aquatic or Fisheries Sciences, Biological or Physical Sciences, Natural Resources Management, Environmental studies, Geology, Sociology, Economics, Anthropology, Biometrics, Biotechnology; or any other aquatic, fisheries and other relevant disciplines from a recognized University;
• Master’s degree in any of the following fields: Aquatic or Fisheries Sciences, Biological or Physical Sciences, Sociology, Economics, Biometrics, Environmental Studies; or equivalent;
• PhD in any of the following fields: Marine or Fisheries Sciences, Biological or Physical Sciences, Sociology, Economics, Biometrics, Environmental Studies; or equivalent;
