Location:

Flexible, although a WWF office in Africa or Latin America is strongly preferred.

Duration:

1 year, with likely extension for further 12 months initially.

The Role:

• Provide technical and thought leadership on Forest Landscape Restoration (FLR) in the WWF network, as part of a core working group with technical expertise, and including a focus on FLR related policy, financing and implementation;
• Engage and lead the community in the co-creation and implementation of exciting and impact oriented ‘initiatives’ that can be driven forward from within the ACAI (Area of Collective Action and Innovation) community;
• Maintain strategic engagement and collaboration with a number of key external partners and FLR related platforms, including some representation at key meetings and International fora.

Main responsibilities:

• Convene and manage interactions of the FLR ACAI community, including interactive online calls, managing a Workplace hub, and facilitating cross-community exchange and relationship building;
• Organize quarterly virtual or face to face meetings (ideally linked to other related meetings) of the FLR core working group;
• Promote engagement with relevant partners and platforms, and coordinate WWF representation at key meetings/workshops and International fora;
• Represent WWF at some of these meetings and fora on behalf of the Forest Practice;
• Maintain channels of communication on the ACAI’s progress with internal and external stakeholders;
• Facilitate integration with the ACAI on Sustainable Landscapes, and other relevant ACAIs;
• Build cross-functional teams (including communications, policy, fundraising, campaigns etc.) to shape the initiatives and drive forward their mobilization;
• Ensure the community is a vibrant hub for sharing activities, approaches, successes, failures, and lessons learnt from across the network on FLR work, in collaboration with the Knowledge Managers from relevant Practices;
• Maintain an overview of FLR activities and initiatives ongoing in the WWF Network;
• Create and maintain a map of experts and expertise within the FLR community enabling members to access individuals who can provide support on their specific need;
• Conduct horizon scanning for new ideas and approaches related to FLR and share those with the community;
• Ensure that the WWF behaviours - striving for impact, listening deeply, collaborating openly, and innovating fearlessly - are deeply embedded in community functioning.

Required Qualifications, Skills and Competencies:

• Advanced University degree in Forestry, International Relations/Development, Environmental /Conservation Science, or other related field;
• Excellent written and oral skills in English, and any other languages an asset; At least five years’ relevant professional experience in forest conservation, environment or development work, ideally with some knowledge/understanding of FLR and/or integrated landscape scale work;
• Proven experience in convening and coordinating virtual communities of practice in an international environment (particularly an NGO) would be a strong advantage.

Working Relationships:

• Internal - Maintains close liaison with Line Manager in home office. Works closely with FLR core working group, including the Deputy Practice Leader and Leadership Team champion as well as the Practice Core team, technical and regional leads plus Focal Points in relevant countries. Also liaises regularly other ACAI community coordinators and colleagues from both Forests and other Practices as relevant.
• External – Act as focal point contact with some key external partners and groups working on FLR including intergovernmental institutions, NGOs and local communities, as required.
