Forestry Manager – Bomet County at Summit Recruitment and Search

The role encompasses the establishment and maintenance of tree nurseries, responsible logging practices, effective tree planting programs, value-added processing of firewood and timber, overall forest maintenance, and the development of innovative strategies to enhance profitability and competitiveness within the industry.

The ideal candidate will have a solid background in silviculture, forest economics, environmental stewardship, and business management.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee establishment and management of tree nurseries.
• Develop propagation schedules aligned with ecological conditions and market needs.
• Plan and implement sustainable logging operations per forest management plans and regulations.
• Select suitable harvesting methods based on forest health and market demand.
• Lead tree planting programs, ensuring appropriate species selection by site.
• Oversee safe and efficient firewood processing from logging residues.
• Manage wood cutting, splitting, stacking, and processing into finished products.
• Supervise sawmilling operations, including log sorting, cutting, and grading.

Qualification

• Bachelor’s degree in forestry, Forest Management, Natural Resource Management, or a related field. Master’s degree is a plus.
• 10 years of progressive experience in forestry operations, including experience in nursery management, logging, tree planting, and timber processing.
• Proven experience in managing a team and overseeing complex projects.
• Strong knowledge of silviculture, forest ecology, forest mensuration, and forest economics.
• Familiarity with relevant environmental regulations and forest certification standards.
• Proficiency in using forestry-related software and tools (e.g., GIS, inventory software).
• Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Strong problem-solving abilities and a strategic mindset.
• Ability1 to work effectively in a physically demanding outdoor environment.
