    Sexual Gender Based Violence Specialist

    About the role

    The role works jointly with GOAL in Sudan to implement EU/FPI funded project “Strengthening Women's Empowerment and Safeguarding Communities and SGBV victims in Sudan.  The project is aimed to improve the safety and protection of women in targeted areas of North Darfur and South Kordofan states.  It will expand services and spaces for women to prevent and respond to sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV) and increase the influence and inclusion of women in peace building forums.

    The Sexual Gender Based Violence (SGBV) Specialist is the main focal point for the implementation of the project in Christian Aid.  The SGBV Specialist is responsible for leading the implementation of all SGBV project interventions ensuring local partners and stakeholders demonstrate enhanced technical expertise necessary for achieving the expected outcomes of the project.  The SGBV Specialist works closely with GOAL project coordinator and field managers and other project staff to ensure that the project’s activities are aligned with the project’s goals and objectives. The SGBV Specialist provides training and support to frontline workers, project staff and community members to mitigate and address sexual gender-based violence (SGBV) and risks. S/he plays a crucial role in empowering women, raising awareness, and fostering a safe environment for women and girls. The SGBV Specialist will serve as the technical expert for the project within Sudan and deputise the Project Coordinator as needed.

    About you

    You will require degree in Social Science, Development Studies, Law, Psychology, Gender Studies, Social Work, or a related area; and post-graduate qualification in a relevant area or significant experience will be desired; and minimum five years of working in GBV prevention and response, social behaviour change approaches, and gender programming. You need experience of working in a partnership arrangement with civil society organisations and with the use of participatory approaches to development is required.; experience in developing and delivering training on GBV topics, knowledge of SASA! methodology and experience in implementing the approach in marginalised communities affected by SGBV, Gender analysis/mainstreaming skills; experience in monitoring and evaluating GBV programmes, particularly gender sensitive data collection; experience in advocacy on gender/SGBV, particularly leading and convening NGO/Women’s movement consortia.
