Job Summary
To provide hands-on management of all aspects of the ELDOWAS water treatment and waste water plants, and wastewater collection system operation, maintenance, repair and regulatory compliance. Development and dissemination of climate smart solutions. Leveraging on company and country past experiences and current expertise, coordinate in the company efforts to carve out a niche and make significant, reputable and high-profile contributions to the national agenda for climate change adaptation and mitigation
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Dams & Water Treatment
- Plan, organize and direct the operation, maintenance, quality control, and modification and improvements of all ELDOWAS water facilities;
- Coordinate and communicate operations activities to the Dams and Water Treatment Plants Officer on the appropriate schedules;
- Establish work priorities and sequence, assign work and manage all operations work performance focusing on efficiency, work quality, cost, schedule and related customer service;
- Fully implement all maintenance plans and programs including infrastructure, equipment, buildings and property and report to management as required;
- Contract with qualified system/facility maintenance contractors and manage quality, schedule and cost of work performed;
- Ensure adequate water supply and delivery of water meeting all quality standards;
- Ensure scheduled maintenance and calibrations of all water treatment equipment is completed on the appropriate schedule;
- Ensure that all system emergencies are addressed in a timely manner and causes are determined and remedial plans developed;
- Perform emergency repairs after normal working hours and participate in “On-Call Duty” rotation
Climate Change Management
- Provide specialist input into strategic matters relating to climate change.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive climate change strategy aligned with the organization’s mission and goals, which includes clear objectives, targets and milestones.
- Consult across the organization to produce a climate policy and policy statement.
- Lead, support and drive climate change activity across the company
- Lead on the production of an annual sustainability report for transparency.
- Analyze data to assess the impact of climate change on local ecosystems and species.
- Undertake product life cycle analysis to support the procurement of products to improve the company sustainability position.
- Mitigation and Adaption Planning

- Leading a multi-disciplined team ensuring that we meet the water demand of our customers.
- Ensuring we comply with drinking water quality standards at all times.
- Leading, managing and developing a team of up to 5 direct reports which includes a planning and support team , a production operational Manager and a Production technical manager.
- Delivering operational performance through performance management.
- Ensuring assets are maintained in line with manufacturer’s expectations.
- Ensure the team reacts to site outages both operationally and technically. To fix faults and return sites to service in a timely manner.
- Championing change through a passion for continuous improvement, promoting best practice ways of working and sharing local knowledge.
- Meeting and exceeding tight financial targets whilst maintaining quality.
- Delivering increased levels of customer service and experience.
- Driving a culture of safety, performance management and exceptional customer service.
Knowledge and Skills Required:
The jobholder must possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Water/Wastewater Engineering or any other related field;
- A minimum of 8 years’ in related work experience, with 3 years of this in Senior Management;
- A member of institute of Engineers Kenya/Engineers Board of Kenya;
- A Masters degree in related field will be an added advantage
- Must have demonstrated ability to handle departmental budgets, resources, processes, projects and relationships;
- Should have thorough knowledge of the relevant industry/sector as well as knowledge of regulatory requirements affecting the relevant sector;
- Must have ability to plan, organize, implement and evaluate departmental goals;
- Must demonstrate ability to handle multiple and conflicting priorities, and work under strict deadlines;
- Should have strong analytical and be result oriented;
- Must have high standards of integrity and ethical practice;
- Must be capable of functioning effectively both as a team player and a team leader;
- Must have management and Leadership skills;
- Must have ability to accurately plan work assignments, prioritize tasks and deliver deadlines;
- Should have problem solving and decision-making abilities;
- Should be an effective communicator with the ability to handle both internal and external communication;
- Should demonstrate ability to identify and respond to risk areas within the department;
- Should have effective people management and conflict resolution skills;
- Must have knowledge in use of MS office packages.
