Duties and Responsibilities

The intern shall undertake the following duties which may include, but are not limited to:

• Conduct research on gender dynamics, gender mainstreaming and gender inequality related challenges in criminal justice institutions and of their implications on countering transnational organized crimes, sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), terrorism and violent extremism, as well as other related thematic areas;
• Contribute to the elaboration of background documents, presentations, briefing notes, summaries, talking points and speeches;
• Assist in the preparation of national and regional technical assistance workshops, meetings, high-level events and conferences;
• Attend and take notes at meetings, as required; and
• Perform other tasks, as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

• To qualify for an internship with the United Nations Internship Programme, the following conditions must be met:
• Applicants must meet one of the following requirements: (a) be enrolled in, or have completed, a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher); (b) be enrolled in, or have completed, the final academic year of a first university degree programme (minimum bachelor's level or equivalent) (preferably in the area of gender studies and/or law, or equivalent). (OFFICIAL WRITTEN PROOF FROM THE UNIVERSITY SUPPORTING ONE OF THE ABOVE POSSIBILITIES MUST BE ATTACHED TO THE INSPIRA APPLICATION); 
• Be computer literate in standard software applications
• Have a demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter; and
• Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Support with the identification, review and documentation of human-interest stories and other relevant information for the purpose of effective communications;
• Engage in outreach and communication efforts to promote and support various advocacy and communication campaigns and activities ;
• Support with the coordination of communication related activities to ensure cohesive communication outputs;
• Support writing, reviewing and updating social media content to raise visibility of the Programme’s work;
• Perform other tasks as necessary.

Qualifications/special skills

• Basic knowledge of design and video editing tools like Adobe illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, PremierPro and Canva;  
• Interest in digital media and communications campaigns;

Duties and Responsibilities

• Under direct supervision of the Head of the Transnational Organized Crime, Illicit Trafficking, and Terrorism Prevention Programmes (Programme Management Officer) and in close consultation with the TOC Communications Expert, the Individual contractor will perform the tasks aimed at supporting visibility and advocacy of the Transnational Organized Crime and Terrorism Programmes, through conceptualizing unique visual identities and designing graphics and layout for various publications, visibility materials, and other written outputs.

Qualifications/special skills

• A high school diploma is required.
• A diploma in graphic design, visual communication, marketing and digital design, information technology, public relations, or a related discipline is an advantage.
• A minimum of 3 years of work experience with graphic design and visual communication is required;
• Demonstrated experience with graphic design (Portfolio) is required; Understanding of typography is required; Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud suit, including Acrobat, InDesign, Illustrator, as well as in Microsoft 365 software is required
• A minimum of 1 year work experience in an international development context is desirable Experience in supporting rule of law, criminal justice or peace and security sector support programmes is desirable;

Responsibilities
Within assigned authority, the incumbents will be responsible for the following specific duties:

• Provide assistance and support to local key clients to facilitate the development, implementation and evaluation of assigned programmes/projects, etc.; assist in monitoring and analysing specific aspects of programme/project development and implementation; review relevant documents and reports; assist in identifying problems and issues to be addressed and recommend corrective actions; liaise with relevant parties; identify and track follow-up actions in consultation with the supervisor.
• Carry out basic research on selected local aspects of programmes, operations and other activities, etc., to include collecting, analysing and presenting statistical data and other information gathered from diverse sources.
• Provide assistance and support for policy coordination and evaluation functions, including the review and analysis of emerging issues and trends, participation in evaluations or research activities and studies.
• Assist in performing consulting assignments, in collaboration with the client, by planning facilitating workshops, through other interactive sessions and assisting in developing the action plan the client will use to manage the change.
• Provide support in survey initiatives; assist with design of data collection tools; issue data collection tools, reviews, analysis and interpretation of responses, identify problems/issues and prepare preliminary conclusions in consultation with the supervisor.
• Assist in the preparation of various written outputs, e.g. draft background papers, analytical notes, sections of reports and studies, inputs to publications, etc.
• Provide administrative and substantive support to consultative and other meetings, conferences, etc., assist with proposing agenda topics, identifying proposed participants, preparation of background documents and presentations, handling logistics, etc.
• Undertake outreach activities; participate in the development of training workshops, seminars, etc.; participate and assist in making presentations on assigned topics/activities.
• Participate in field missions, including provision of substantive and administrative support, data collection, etc.
• Assist in activities related to budget funding (programme/project preparation and submissions, progress reports, financial statements, etc.) and preparation of related documents/reports (pledging, work programme, programme budget, etc.).
• Contribute to the collection and analysis of data and identification of trends or patterns and provide draft insights through graphs, charts, tables and reports using data visualization methods for data-driven planning, decision-making, presentation and reporting.  
• Document requirements and background information used for data analysis.
• Perform other work-related duties as required.

Education

• An advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent) in business administration, management, finance or relevant social science with adequate focus on international maritime affairs, international security policy, criminal justice and/or law enforcement issues, is required.
• A first-level university degree in combination with two additional years of qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree.
• No experience is needed for candidates who hold an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent).

Work Experience

• A minimum of two years of progressively responsible experience in programme or project administration, technical cooperation or related area is required.
• No experience is needed for candidates who hold an advanced university degree (Master’s degree or equivalent).    
• Experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system is required.    
• Experience with SAP/Umoja is desirable.    
• Experience in grants, project or fund management related modules in SAP/Umoja or SEGE is desirable.    
• Experience in procurement processes in SAP/UMOJA is desirable.    
• Work experience with the United Nations system and/or other international organizations in the area of fighting international crime is desirable.    
• Experience in data analytics or related area is desirable.
