POSITION SUMMARY:
The successful candidate will support the Director of PDMSD to ensure that the mandate of PDMSD is fulfilled and assist the Director to put in place and implement mechanisms that will ensure that the core functions of PDMSD are delivered.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Deputy Director, Physical Planning and Development Division is responsible for providing professional services necessary for coordinating construction-related activities, providing information and implementing and maintaining services within established guidelines and standards.
The Deputy Director shall specifically have the responsibility to:
- Develop specifications for all construction projects;
- Prepare annual capital construction/improvement plans for budgeting;
- Co-ordinate capital construction activities;
- Recommend policies and/or procedures and actions on issues that relate to construction projects;
- Evaluate potential sites and/or conditions of existing locations for the purpose of determining that they meet all project needs and specifications;
- Serve as Divisional representative on statutory and ad hoc committees to receive and/or convey information related to assigned projects and activities;
- Coordinate the resources of the Physical Planning and Development Division to fulfill the Directorate’s mandate; and,
- Perform any other functions as may be determined by the Director.
Qualification Required & Experience
- Post-Graduate Diploma/Masters in Architecture;
- Member of Ghana Institute of Architects; and,
- A minimum of 12 years progressively responsible post-qualification experience.
Or
- Masters in the Built Environment;
- Member of the Ghana Institution of Surveyors (Quantity Surveying); and,
- A minimum of 12 years progressively responsible post-qualification experience.
Or
- Masters in Civil/Structural Engineering;
- Member of the Ghana Institution of Engineers; and,
- A minimum of 12 years progressively responsible post-qualification experience.
- Knowledge and application of IT software relevant to the profession is an advantage.
- Experience in working collaboratively to build strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong managerial skills especially in project management.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The Structural Engineer, Physical Planning and Development (P.P.&D), is part of a team in the PDMSD which is responsible for the management of the Physical Development and Maintenance of the Facilities and Property of the University.
Key Responsibilities
- Responsible for supporting the Project Team in detailed structural engineering design and technical input during the preparation and execution of construction documents in the office and on site
- Understand structural design analysis and calculations and present professional design reports
- Lead the technical aspects of the project team and over-see all phases of construction
- Act as support engineer and technical supervisory manager to the Project Manager, Designers and Project Architects
- Prepare civil/structural engineering design details and drawings
- Appraise projects and carry out the necessary quality control and assurance protocols
- Monitor and evaluate project progress and submit monthly technical progress reports
Qualification Required & Experience
The successful applicant must have:
- A Bachelor's degree in structural engineering from a recognised university
- A Masters or post-graduate degree in Civil/Structural will be desirable with more than 10 years post-qualification working experience. Must be a member of a recognized Professional Body.
- Complete understanding of CAD applications and practices, particularly AutoCAD. Ability to set up office standards for the translation of drawings between these and other platforms (DWG, IFC, Inventor files).
- Familiarity with design applications in structural and civil engineering.
- Experience and be a proficient user of MS Project and/or Primavera project management.
- Leadership skills and be a team player with a flexible and open attitude.
- Creative and original thinking capabilities demonstrated through a strong creative portfolio.
- The ability to support a team with good collaboration skills.
- The ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines efficiently
