    Environment Supervisor – Monitoring/Compliance

    About This Role:

    • To develop and implement environmental monitoring programs, in accordance with internationally accepted protocols, Newmont standards and regulatory requirements
    • To interpret monitoring data, evaluate environmental conditions and predict potential changes in the environment, associated with mining activities.

    In This Role You Will:

    Environmental Monitoring

    • Develop and implement all water and non-water monitoring programs to meet environmental standards required by NGGL and regulators.
    • Manage the on-site environmental laboratory.

    Environmental Compliance

    • Register and track compliance.
    • Report non-compliances immediately to management.
    • Develop corrective action plans and track to completion, where required.
    • Ensure compliance with multiple regulatory requirements, as well as internal Newmont standards.
    • Participate in the environmental risk assessment process.
    • Coordinate the development of action plans to address and minimize significant environmental risks.

    Environmental Data Collection and Assurance

    • Manage the water and non-water data collection and interpretation process.
    • Review data/documents to confirm whether these meet quality and compliance standards required to satisfy NGGL and regulatory reporting commitments.
    • Ensure Environmental Data assurance.
    • Coordinate Environmental Protection Agency, Minerals Commission, Water Resources Commission and/or other (regulatory) agency officials as well as third  party auditor’s environmental inspections and audits.

    Permitting

    • Coordinate and support environmental permitting requirements.
    • Track and document permit conditions and requirements in the site commitments.

    Environmental Reporting

    • Provide environmental input for company meetings.
    • Coordinate reviews of key performance indicators to ensure that emerging environmental issues are communicated and addressed.
    • Prepare external environmental reports and submit to the Environmental Protection Agency, Minerals Commission, Newmont Corporate office and others as required.

    Team Leadership

    • Manage all direct reports by:
      • performing performance appraisals.
      • recommending further/ relevant training courses and development actions in accordance with Newmont’s people development program(s).
      • enhancing communication with staff through regular feedback, contact, meetings and briefings, etc.
      • building sufficient employee ‘bench strength’.
      • conducting robust succession planning.
    • Approve the Compliance and Monitoring teams’ work schedules.

    Health and Safety

    • Lead Environment’s departments contribution to the zero harm goal of Ahafo North with focus on quality safety interactions, inspections, audits, risk assessments & impact mitigation and control systems.

    Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

    Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

    • First degree in Environment Sciences, Engineering or a related field.

    Additional Knowledge:

    • Knowledge of Ghanaian Environmental Regulations as they apply to mining.
    • HSE Superintendent Competency in Minerals and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulation (LI2182).
    • Thorough understanding of Environment Management Systems.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 7 years’ environment experience working in the mining or related industrial operations environments.
    • Minimum of 3 years’ experience in a leadership role.
    • Experienced working with ISO4001 or similar Environmental Management Systems.

    Community Development Officer I

    • To provide support in the coordination of the Newmont Ahafo North dnation requests and support the implementation of Livelihood Reestablishment interventions for project affected persons/ community development initiatives, with a key focus on agricultural improvement, and broader community initiatives.

    In This Role You Will:

    Planning

    • Assist in the implementation of the Community Development Strategic Plan and providing information to contractors, according to Newmont governance and regulatory requirements.
    • Provide information for the development of the scope of work and the terms of reference that will govern the work.
    • Assist in the identification of community development risks and lend support to the Coordinator in identifying and managing local risks.

    Partnerships and Collaboration

    • Assist in the needs assessments to enhance partnerships and collaboration.
    • Participate in community development forums to ensure overall alignment and integration with the Newmont Sustainability & External Relation strategy.
    • Support the promotion of tripartite (Newmont, government, communities) approach to implementing community development initiatives.

    Socio-Economic Development

    • Support the livelihood re-establishment programs for project affected persons, particularly the vulnerable peoples program.
    • Assist in the coordination of employee participation in voluntary community development initiatives.
    • Manage the Newmont Ahafo North donation process.
    • Co-ordinate gender mainstreaming program (women consultative communities activities.)
    • Facilitate the implementation of approved donations to recipients.

    Compliance and Reporting

    • Provide information for reports on community development projects and programmes, including performance against relevant targets and commitments.
    • Assist in community development audits, by mobilizing stakeholders for meetings.
    • Provide input for community development reports.
    • Ensure compliance to Newmont Sustainability & External Relation standards.

    Budgets and Payments

    • Provide donation budget variance reporting to the Donations Committee.
    • Provide support for the livelihoods budget preparation and implementation.

    Safety

    • Contribute to the zero harm goal of Ahafo North with focus on quality safety interactions, inspections, audits, risk assessments & impact mitigation and control systems.

    Additional Knowledge:

    • Knowledge in guidance and counselling.

    Experience:

    Working Conditions

    • Incumbent’s work is with governmental institutions and stakeholders in six districts, travels to different mine impacted and non-impacted communities to work. Position holder also travels to work with other partners such as GIZ, Project CURE, OICI and other mines in Ghana.
    • Engaging stakeholders, delivering charitable donations/packages and monitoring the work of consultants involves walking around project sites, and local communities.
