    Underground Maintenance Technician (Mechanical)

    To conduct mechanical maintenance activities for the underground mine with the aims of ensuring equipment is maintained in a fit for purpose and safe condition, delivering optimum plant and equipment availability, minimizing unplanned maintenance tasks and reducing maintenance costs.

    IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

    • Perform servicing, maintenance and repair on all mechanical plant and equipment, in line with approved maintenance standards.
    • Communicate with maintenance, operational and planning personnel to identify, plan, estimate and organize the proper labor, services, equipment and skills to ensure they are available as required.
    • Assist with the review and approval structural, mechanical, plate work and piping drawings and make recommendations and modifications based on technical standards and procedures.
    • Manage and control costs within maintenance areas, where possible (i.e. reduce waste, improve operational control).
    • Comply with the requirements for the proper use, storage and maintenance of company tooling.
    • Perform mechanical maintenance activities such as the installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, inspection and decommissioning of plant and equipment in the underground mine and associated infrastructure in conjunction with the maintenance team.
    • Assist with the adherence of mechanical maintenance to all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System, Newmont vision and values.
    • Assist with the compliance of all mechanical apparatus, installations and related work to the requirements of the Mineral and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulation, LI 2182.

    YOUR TRAINING, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE CHECKLIST:

    Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

    • Mechanical Fitter, Welder, Boilermaker trade qualification or equivalent is required as a minimum.
    • Post trade qualifications in a relevant field are highly desirable.
    • Inspecting or Sectional Engineer Certificate of competency / MINCOM Certification is highly desirable.

    Additional Knowledge:

    • Demonstrable knowledge of mining or heavy industry maintenance practices, principles and standards.
    • Working knowledge of pumps and piping systems is highly desirable.
    • Demonstrable knowledge of basic measurements and calculations.
    • Working knowledge of CMMS programs is desirable.
    • Knowledge of planning and scheduling maintenance activities.
    • Knowledge of the statutory regulations relevant to safety and the environment for the mining industry.

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 4 years’ experience in the field of mechanical maintenance.
    • Proven experience with the installation, commissioning, maintenance, servicing, inspection and repair of mechanical apparatus and installations in a large-scale mining or heavy industry operation.
    • Experience with the operation and maintenance of belt conveyors is highly desirable.

    • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and ability to adjust focus.
    • Work Environment: The employee is required to operate in a safety-critical environment with hazardous materials and potentially harmful / dangerous machinery and equipment. The employee will be required to work underground. The employee occasionally is exposed to electrical hazards of both high and low voltage. The employee may also be exposed to fumes, high temperature hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces etc.
    • Protective Equipment (PPE): Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, goggles, high visible clothing, safety harness, earplugs and dust mask.

    Underground Maintenance Boilermaker

    • Perform mechanical maintenance activities such as the installation, commissioning, maintenance, repair, inspection and decommissioning of plant and equipment in the underground mine and associated infrastructure in conjunction with the maintenance team.
    • Conduct troubleshooting of all relevant mechanical systems, ensuring there effective repair and reliable operation.
    • Assist with the adherence of mechanical maintenance to all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System, Newmont vision and values.
    • Assist with the compliance of all mechanical apparatus, installations and related work to the requirements of the Mineral and Mining (Health, Safety and Technical) Regulation, LI 2182.

    Underground Mobile Crane Operator

    • To operate cranes and lifting equipment of varying sizes, in accordance with job requests and within the OEM guidelines and load specifications, to promote a safe work environment.
    • To check that all rigging is done in accordance with all established safety protocols and conduct basic maintenance of cranes and other lifting equipment to maximize operational effectiveness.

    IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL:

    • Lift, move, position and place machinery, equipment, materials or other large objects within the limitations of the size of crane and other lifting equipment being used
    • Load and unload trucks, according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) requirements.
    • Perform critical lifts, in consultation with and under supervision of the Mechanical Supervisor or designate.
    • Conduct basic maintenance of cranes and other lifting equipment to maximize operational effectiveness.
    • Perform monthly inspections on the machines, document and file them.
    • Perform supporting operational tasks (i.e. reporting, checklist completion) associated with crane and other lifting equipment operations, by following established processes.
    • Support the Mechanical Supervisor in facilitating training for the maintenance workforce and other new Crane Operator recruits.
    • Produce a daily shift report and submit to the supervisor.
    • Minimize the potential risk for personal injury or equipment damage by rigorously following established SOP’s and STP’s.
    • Verify that all rigging is done in accordance with established safety protocols.
    • Attend monthly safety inspection and meetings.

    YOUR TRAINING, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE CHECKLIST:

    Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

    • MVT I (Motor Vehicle Technician) or similar
    • Crane operator certification of competency.
    • MINCOM crane operator certificate of competence (>45Ton)
    • MINCOM forklift/EWP Operator certificate of competence desirable

    Experience:

    • Minimum of 3 – 5 years’ crane operation experience in a fixed plant or similar environment.

    Technical Skills:

    • Communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
    • Carry out crane calibrations for correct lifting with load cell.
    • Operation of rough and all terrain crane for lifting of heavy equipment.
    • Operation of forklift for lifting of heavy equipment.
    • Operation of overhead hoist for lifting heavy equipment in a fixed plant area.
    • Ability to inspect, identify problems and report by using technical names of equipment parts.
    • Ability to follow verbal directions and visual hand signals.

    WORKING CONDITIONS:

    • Incumbent will work in a temperature-controlled equipment cab in hot conditions.
    • Protective Equipment (PPE): Work requires mandatory PPE such as helmet, safety glasses, respirator, highly visible clothing, safety harness, earplugs, and steel-toed boots according to working conditions.
    • Incumbent will be working at significant heights.
    • Incumbent is expected to possess a high degree of continuous concentration during the execution of tasks.
