    Procurement Officer

    JOB PURPOSE: 

    This role is responsible for ensuring that goods and services are purchased in a timely and cost-effective manner, and they’re availed to user departments in the right quality and quantity. This role serves as the main contact between internal customers and external suppliers.

    Description: 

    REPORTING LINES:

    REPORTS TO:

    • Senior Procurement Officer

    FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • None

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Action all approved purchase requisitions, submit to prospective suppliers and expedite response for the same;
    • Maintain good Supplier relations and negotiating contracts
    • Evaluate and analyse the quotations submitted by proposed vendors and process local purchase orders.
    • Research & evaluate Prospective Suppliers
    • Compile documentation for approval by the Procurement Committee where required;
    • Prepare tender documents and send out to prospective bidders;
    • Receive bids from vendors, carry out evaluation and submit recommendation for awards;
    • Preparation of Annual Procurement plans
    • Conduct Due Diligence for Suppliers as required
    • Provide support in disposal of assets declared either obsolete/no more annually or biannually); and
    • Participate in the Procurement Committee as alternate Secretary to the Senior Procurement Officer.
    • Assist in Supervision of Procurement Department in the absence of the Senior Procurement Officer

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in purchasing and Supplies or in a relevant field.
    • Full (CIPS- Level 6) qualification.
    • Minimum of Four (4) years relevant experience in procurement; 1 Year of supervisory experience added advantage.

    DESIRABLE

    • Current membership with a professional body; CIPS & KISM
    • Experience using an ERP system; with knowledge and experience in E-procurement Systems as an added advantage.

    Data Manager

    JOB PURPOSE: 

    To provide data management support services and oversight for UZIMA project

    Description:

    FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

    None

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Preparing, updating and documenting systems requirements; overseeing design of data capturing systems and formulation of reports
    • Developing systems, QCs and tools for collecting, entering, editing, cleaning, storing, validation, archiving, retrieving, organizing, and transferring of data; and carrying out data review, validation, query generation and resolution, and report generation of all records generated from the database.
    • Assisting with development of screening logs and case report forms.
    • Conducting recurrent information queries and baseline statistical analyses and report results generated by study sites according to the project specification.
    • Developing and implementing processes and procedures for data management and movement.
    • Implementing and enforcing regular data security activities such as storage, backups, archiving and user administration and resolving queries that arise
    • Liaising closely with programmers to create databases, and to test and implement the various case report forms as per the project requirements.
    • Providing a link between ICT and the department study teams and colleague data managers.
    • Overall responsible for training, supervising and managing the departments data management and processing teams and monitoring their performance.
    • Documenting system and data management procedures and processes in a manual and updating them periodically.
    • Performing study specific data management duties as assigned
    • Responsible for preparing work plans and for managing QC of data and systems.
    • And any other duties that may be assigned from time to time.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelor’s degree in Statistics, Computer Sciences/Information Science or Information Technology or in a relevant field
    • Minimum (4) years overall experience; One (1) year supervisory experience an added advantage

    DESIRABLE

    • Demonstrated competence in information management and statistical analysis.
    • Excellent skills in systems analysis, data management, database design and structures
    • Excellent computing skills, including LINUX, REDCap, DACIMA, R, Stata, and other Open-Source software.
    • Experience in managing multisite, distributed data collection and integration.
    • Experience of developing system documentation
    • Business analysis and basic SQL skills
    • Ability to handle large databases and troubleshoot issues involving complex data integration.
    • Expert knowledge of maintaining and debugging live software systems and of writing and editing program documentation

    Early Post-Doctoral Researcher -Bioinformatics

    JOB PURPOSE: 

    The post-doctoral researcher will be responsible for

    • Supervising  and overseeing ongoing work on statistical bioinformatics, data science and machine learning activities related to pathogen genomics and epidemiology.
    • Supporting and contributing to the capacity-building initiatives of PEO group and KWTRP.
    • Supervision and mentorship of PhD students and research assistants in the research group.
    • Contributing and supporting policy engagement initiatives of PEO group.
    • Developing own body of work and mobilization of research funding to support transition to research independence.

    JOB DESCRIPTION

    The primary responsibility will be to coordinate and support a body of work focused on data analysis of epidemiological and genomic data using machine learning and data science methods.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Gather, curate, and manage datasets related to genomic epidemiology. This will involve data cleaning, organizing, and ensuring data quality and integrity.
    • Apply machine learning algorithms for the analysis of both epidemiological and genomic data and which includes variant calling, genome assembly, predicting functional regions and elements in viral genomes.
    • Develop and apply statistical analysis techniques to identify patterns, trends, and associations with data.
    • Develop computational tools, scripts, and dashboards to facilitate data analysis, visualization and interpretation using R, Julia and Python or other relevant programming languages and frameworks.
    • Publish research findings in high-quality scientific journals and present at conferences and workshops to disseminate knowledge and contribute to the fields of public health, genomics and epidemiology of infectious diseases.
    • Provide technical expertise and guidance to project teams and partners on best practices for integrating Statistical and bioinformatics pipelines including machine learning methods.
    • Contribute to grant writing and proposal development to secure funding for research projects related to application of data sciences in genomics.
    • Mentor and supervise junior researchers and students across the PEO and SECCAB projects involved in research projects, providing guidance and support in their professional development

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • PhD in a relevant field (e.g., statistics, bioinformatics, data science, epidemiology) with a focus on statistics and machine learning.
    • Strong background and demonstratable expertise in statistics including Bayesian analysis.
    • Proven track record of publishing research articles in reputable scientific journals, preferably in the fields of Data Science, epidemiology, Bioinformatics, or related areas.
    • Solid quantitative and strong analytical skills, including experience using statistical software (e.g. R, Python, Julia) for data analysis and interpretation.

    DESIRABLE

    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex research findings to diverse audiences.
    • Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with researchers, policymakers, and healthcare practitioners in Africa.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines.
    • Willingness to travel as needed.
