About the role
At the Council, we use the power of people and the law to defend and advance the rights of displaced people worldwide. We unite a membership of 600+ refugee leaders, lawyers, advocates and NGOs, with strong regional networks across Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. These networks are run by dedicated Regional Litigators who work with our members to lead high-impact litigation. To date, we have secured freedom, employment, education and more for over 400,000 refugees and migrants across the world.
In the last two years, our Africa regional network has grown to over 100 members and we are actively supporting litigation on issues including citizenship rights for refugee children, climate displacement and non-refoulement across the region including in Kenya, South Africa and Zambia.
The Council is now recruiting for the Africa Regional Litigator to consolidate and expand the Council’s regional work and network which includes:
The Regional Litigator position will be housed by Kituo Cha Sheria. This will ensure the staff member is closely connected to the issues on the ground and has the resources, capacities, network and support to carry out their work in the most efficient way. While hosted by Kituo Cha Sheria, they will work full-time on implementing the Council’s mission and priorities. The lawyer will report directly to the Director of the Council.
