    Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests/principal Kenya Forestry College

    Entry Requirements:

    An officer at this level shall report to Senior Deputy Chief Conservator of Forests (Forest Conservation Management)

    .Duties and responsibilities

    • Provide strategic leadership in the academic, training research and staff capacity building programmes of the Directorate.
    • Leading and participating in developing new and  review  existing policies, legislations, strategies, programmes and projects for the college.
    • Ensuring and coordinating the development, review and implementation of programmes, training curricula and  the monitoring and reporting tools.
    • Oversee effecctive managemnt of all training programs & co-curriculum activities in the college.
    • Responsible for resource mobilization for the Department
    • Developing strategies for resource mobilization for the college.
    • Guiding and collaborating in partnership arrangements with stakeholders.
    • Initiating new ideas and programmes aimed at improving teaching and learning at the college.
    • Overseeing and coordinating mobilization and manage financial and human resources development in the college.
    • Coordinatingthe establishment of the collaborations and linkages with  industries and relevant training institutions.
    • Preparing estimates of recurrent and development expenditure for the college.
    • Overseeing and participating in interpreting  and implementing of the  relevant Government policies and translating them into training modules.
    • Guiding and coordinating in identifying  and admitting of  potential trainees for various training programmes in the institute.
    • Leading, coordinating and participating in the overall preparation of  the Institutes  Performance Contracting process.
    • Directing and coordinating in setting of the institutes objectives and activities to realize the work plans as per the performance contract.
    • Initiating and conducting research activities.
    • Ensuring safe custody and security of both movable and immovable college assets and human resource.
    • Leading in planning, acquiring, developing andmaintaining physical facilities at the college.
    • Ensuring the submission of completed appraisal reports to Human Resources Management Department.
    • Authorising all the Directorate’s expenditure in conformity with Service and Government financial legisltations.

    Additional Information:

    Person Specification

    • Bachelor’s degree in Forestry or any other relevant qualifications from a recognized University.
    • Master’s degree in any of the following disciplines: Forestry, Business Management, Sustainable Development, Environmental Law, Environmental Science, Natural Resource Science/Management or any other relevant qualifications from a recognized University.
    • At least 10 years of work experience with 3 years in management.
    • A relevant Doctorate degree (PHD) from a recognized university is an added advantage.
    • Successfully attended a six (6) weeks Leadership and Development programme course or equivalent from a recognized training institution.
    • Adequate experience in operating at policy and strategic levels and translating these into practical and achievable objectives responsive to customers’ needs.
    • A member of good standing in a relevant professional body.
    • Proficiency in Computer applications.
    • Fulfilled requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution.

    Skills & Attribute

    • Sound knowledge of institutional and government donors and funding policies.
    • Experience in developing and implementing successful entrepreneurial approaches to business development with the corporate sector.
    • Experience with working in Public Private Partnership environment.
    • Excellent relationship building and relationship management skills with both internal and external stakeholders.
    • Has experience in structured decision-making processes, prioritization.Experience in goal setting, planning, budgeting, monitoring and reporting, as well as legal/contractual aspects of cooperation.
    • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
    • Proven experience in external organizational representation.
    • Good research and analytical skills.
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills, fluent in English both in writing and in speech.
    • Leadership skills
