    Gender and CSO Specialist

    About The Job

    Summary of The Position:

    • Reporting to the Team Leader (TL), and with support from the HQ Gender Equality Advisor, the Gender and CSO Specialist will be responsible for conducting a Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+), the design and implementation of the Project’s Gender Strategy, monitoring and reporting and the provision of technical expertise and oversight on Gender Equality (GE). 
    • The Specialist will also be responsible for building strong working relationships with women CSOs and will be involved in the oversight of grants to fund locally led gender responsive climate adaptation projects.

    Key Responsilitities:

    • During Inception, with the support of the HQ Gender Equality Advisor, responsibilities include:
    • Conduct a Gender-based Analysis Plus (GBA+) focused on diverse project beneficiaries and intersectionality.
    • Develop a Project GE strategy focused on mitigating the root causes of gender-specific climate vulnerabilities.
    • Review and validate the project’s Performance Measurement Framework (PMF), Logic Model and key performance indicators from a GE perspective.
    • Conduct research, provide inputs, and participate in the drafting of the Project Implementation Plan.
    • During Implementation, with the support of the HQ Gender Equality Advisor, responsibilities include:
    • Provide strategic advice and technical support to help ensure delivery of project outcomes and outputs related to GE.
    • Work with relevant team members to oversee the delivery and use of grants to fund locally led gender responsive climate adaptation projects. Undertake occasional field visits.
    • Support the design of community outreach, dialogue, and sensitization to mitigate the root causes of gender-specific climate vulnerabilities.
    • Raise awareness, generate organizational learning and knowledge sharing on the intersection of climate change and gender equality.
    • Design and deliver training for the Project team and project partners to support the operationalization of the project’s gender strategy.
    • Contribute to the periodic production of analytical and learning documents, including semi-annual and ad hoc reports to be submitted to the client.

    Job Requirements
    Education/Training:

    • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in social sciences, economics, gender issues, or other development-related fields. 
    • Specialized studies on gender.

    Experience:

    • At least 7 years of experience providing senior level technical assistance and guidance on gender equality and women’s rights.
    • At least 5 years of professional experience supporting gender programming on donor funded projects in the areas of governance, public financial administration, climate change/climate finance or other relevant areas.
    • Experience working at the intersection of gender and climate change adaptation highly desirable.
    • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders and partners related to gender equality and women’s empowerment, including international agencies, Governments and civil society organizations.
    • Demonstrated experience generating organizational learning and knowledge sharing. Producing quality and accessible communications and knowledge products (e.g., program reports, stories of change, etc.) for a range of audiences, including donors, program stakeholders and the wider public.

    Key Abilities:

    • Knowledge of methodologies and best practices for promoting gender equality, equity and women empowerment. 
    • Deep understanding of the intersectionality between gender and climate change.
    • Experience with implementing gender mainstreaming agendas in the environmental/climate change sector highly desirable.
    • Good partnership and outreach skills, building alliances and networks, and maintaining good relations with partners and stakeholders.
    • Good facilitation and training skills.
    • Ability to work in a team and good interpersonal skills, focuses on impact and results and responds positively to feedback.
    • Strong communication and reporting skills.
    • Strong computer skills including MS Office (Word, Excel, PPT).
