    Grants Manager, Program Strategy & Performance

    • The Grants Manager, PSP is responsible for enabling effective management of LMH’s restricted grant portfolio with a focus on strengthening cross-team grants management. Last Mile Health manages a portfolio of approximately 50 grants, with about 10-15 of those grants being programmatically restricted and therefore requiring technical and financial tracking, management, and reporting. The ultimate purpose of this role is to strengthen Last Mile Health’s grants management function to improve the organization’s ability to deliver on its commitments and ready itself for the management of a more diverse set of funding partners, such as public sector funders.
    • Working under the leadership of the Senior Director, the Manager will help to ensure compliance with grant-specific donor and internal requirements, while also coordinating across departments to track and promote progress towards grant deliverables. This includes monitoring the use of donor funds to ensure that resources are being applied effectively and as intended to achieve high-quality results. The Grants Manager will establish internal structures (eg, coordination mechanisms) that facilitate information management and exchange related to grant and program implementation. To effectively execute the work, they will need to regularly collaborate with the Partnerships & Communications, Finance, Country Programs, and Global Technical Teams to ensure that each team understands their role in managing the grant, and problem-solve coordination challenges as needed. They will also engage with the organization's senior leadership and executive team to ensure a shared understanding of high-priority risks and mitigation strategies as well as common patterns that could inform strategic decisions.
    • This position is only open to candidates who are Ghanian Nationals currently located in or willing to relocate to Accra.

    What You'll Do

    • Support and lead grant launches, ensuring shared understanding of roles across teams for grant implementation and alignment on management approach; ensure activities and budget are integrated into program dashboards/work plans
    • Coordinate with partnerships & communications, finance, and programs teams to develop and maintain grant overviews and (for high-priority grants) risk management scorecards
    • Work with programs teams to set up systems for grant monitoring and risk management (i.e. deliverable, target and budget trackers, risk registers); coach/mentor teams to identify patterns and trends in grant performance and effectively implement mitigation strategies- moving from problem identification to problem-solving
    • Maintain global, cross-team grant portfolio support hub with the most updated information and facilitate global portfolio risk review meetings (i.e. getting timely inputs from all team members, developing agenda, taking notes, following up on action steps
    • Monitor spending down in coordination with Global Finance and budget managers to address material variances
    • Act as a liaison between the programs team and finance and development teams to ensure appropriate donor communication and contract compliance
    • Identify and communicate internally the need for key grant modifications as they arise, such as changes to deliverable timelines and targets, budget revisions/re-forecasts, no-cost extensions, etc. Ensure clear roles for advancing the next steps.
    • Ensure that all teams understand and adhere to requirements as outlined in the grant contract or agreement
    • Support grant progress reporting as needed (grant reporting is the responsibility of the Partnerships and Communications team)
    • Deliver recommendations to Last Mile Health leadership about the skills and capacities needed to strengthen grants management functions across the organization

    What You'll Bring

    • A bachelor’s degree with academic focus on management, operations, and/or business
    • Several years of experience in grants and contracts administration in a fast-paced NGO (experience with public sector funders like USAID and institutional foundations like Gates Foundation a plus)
    • Experience with applying risk management frameworks
    • Experience delivering results within short time frames and in complex, fast-moving work environments
    • Strong project management and time management skills; highly organized and detail-oriented
    • Experience establishing compliance systems and/or setting and revising policies and procedures while brokering buy-in from all stakeholders
    • Ability to work as a team with program staff at all levels without holding any direct line management authority (i.e; ability to influence without authority)
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain effective project files for accountability and audit purposes
    • Demonstrated customer service orientation
    • Demonstrated ability to implement an effective e-mail management system (i.e. tracking, prioritization) and strong knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (i.e. Word, Powerpoint, Excel) and Google Drive Products (Docs, Slides, Sheets, and Drive).

    You'll Impress Us If

    • You have knowledge of compliance requirements for major donors, including public sector funders such as USAID, EU, UKAID and institutional foundations such as CIFF, Gates Foundation, Rockefeller Foundation
    • You possess high-level skills in coaching, mentoring, and capacity building, around donor compliance requirements
    • You have the ability to manage multiple projects across different teams, cultural contexts, time zones, work habits, etc.
    • You are mission-driven with a commitment to health, social justice, and gender equity
    • You have strong communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills; the ability to interface with diverse stakeholders in a range of multidisciplinary settings
