We support more than 250,000 students across Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Ghana through a combination of low cost private schools we manage directly, and partnership schools we manage in collaboration with governments. We offer four phases of education, from nursery through to senior secondary. Independent evaluations have found that Rising students make learning gains two to three times larger than their peers in comparable schools.

About The Role

Rising Academies is looking for an experienced qualitative analyst to work on the research component of our Enhanced Safeguarding Strategy. Child protection and safeguarding is at the core of the model and the number one priority in our schools. This research aims to understand what behaviours we see in our schools, what explains those behaviours and how they might be changed. During January 2023, Rising Academies conducted 70 interviews with school staff and students in 10 schools in Ghana. The qualitative analyst will support our Safeguarding and Research teams by analysing the data, drawing conclusions and sharing insights with the management team.

The deliverables

• Full report consisting of an introduction, background to the study, data collection approach, methodology, results and conclusion/discussion. The report must draw out key themes and address the overarching areas of interest, including barriers to reporting as well as perceptions of inappropriate student-teacher relationships. The report must also include potential differences by gender, age and tenure of the participants.
• Presentation of the report and main results to the management team over Zoom / Meet.

The process expected to be followed to produce the deliverables

• Review the interview materials and documentation available to fully understand the research initiative.
• Connect with the field team on the design of the interview, the fieldwork and the transcription.
• Listen to a sample of the interview recordings and read the transcriptions. Verify the accuracy and quality of the interviews and transcriptions.
• Analyse the transcription data using qualitative research methods (potentially using qualitative data analysis software tools like Nvivo).
• Hold 2-3 meetings with the management team about the progress made in the analysis and writing of the report.
   

Timeframe

We expect this assignment to take between 2-3 weeks to complete.

Requirements

Qualifications and Experience

• University level undergraduate degree.
• A minimum of 3 years of experience in a related field (data collection, research).
• Strong track record of professionalism and trustworthiness.
• Proficient Excel skills and ability to present data insightfully and clearly explain themeaning of it. Knowledge of any statistical software package is preferred (Stata, R,SPSS) and qualitative data analysis software (Nvivo).
• Familiar with basic statistics and econometric concepts and ability to use themappropriately.
• You are a strong communicator and writer, and present data clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Benefits

Compensation

The consultant will be paid a fixed fee for the completion of the assignment and after submission of the agreed deliverables. The fee amount will be agreed between the parties and it is expected to be in the $1,000 - $1,500 (USD) range. The consultant is not expected to travel to Ghana.
