    Research Manager

    Position Summary

    To advance Teach For All’s 25-year vision and intended outcomes, we are seeking a Research Manager to support the success of our Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) team’s existing and new experimental, quasi-experimental, and mixed methods evaluations on teacher leadership development, student outcomes, and long-term impact on systems and communities. The Research Manager will project manage existing studies, playing an integral role in supporting senior MERL team members in ensuring grant-funded research studies operate efficiently and produce high-quality, cutting-edge research. The Research Manager will use their knowledge and experience in field experiments, data collection, measurement tool development, and project management to support effective management of discrete research projects. This is an individual contributor position reporting to the Director of Research, Evaluation, and Network Learning.

    About the Team

    The Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) team supports Teach For All and its network partners to generate evidence of our network’s total impact – on student learning and leadership, participant and alumni leadership, and communities and systems impact. The MERL team engages in evidence generation through large-scale independent evaluations working in partnership with external researchers, donors, and network partners to study our network partners’ impact across the theory of change. In addition, the MERL team conducts internal, programmatic research on strategic initiatives in teacher and local leadership development to support systemic change in education.

    As a Research Manager at Teach For All, you will engage in the following and/or similar activities:

    MERL Projects, Grants, and Research Management (70%)

    • Develop new project management systems to monitor multiple research projects and grants simultaneously.
    • Create new systems for communication and coordination between Teach For All teams, donors, network partners, researcher partners, and other vendors.
    • Support resource management and budgeting for Teach For All research initiatives.
    • Assist with research project proposal development, kickoff, instrument and protocol design, data collection, analysis and reporting.
    • Coordinate grant reporting activities, compiling evidence and data from multiple parties.

     

    Research & Evidence Communications, Monitoring, and Dissemination (30%)

    • Lead the development of new research evidence communications products like research briefs, infographics, and other communications resources in collaboration with Public Affairs
    • Support publishing, presentations, and other communications and learning activities from grant-funded research.
    • Support research dissemination efforts like developing proposals for conferences and publications, coordinate in-person research events with network partners, and provide project management support for research conferences and events.
    • Developing and maintain systems for monitoring new research and evidence on the Teach For All network.

    The Research Manager will focus on projects from across the global Teach For All network, and more specifically will begin working on existing and new research like:

    • A quasi-experimental evaluation of whole child development effects and school level effects in Nigeria
    • Internal research on social and emotional development and well-being in Colombia
    • Supporting future research by coordinating with network partners to develop research concept notes

    As the ideal candidate, you will bring:

    • 4+ years related work or training experience
    • Demonstrated experience managing research projects, including proposal development, budget development, and data collection coordination
    • Familiarity with research and evaluation methods for educational research settings (RCTs, quasi-experimental impact evaluations, qualitative methods)
    • Experience with data analysis and cleaning
    • Experience successfully solving complex and dynamic problems
    • Experience managing complex relationships and multi-stakeholder projects
    • A strong orientation toward diversity, equity, and inclusiveness in how to approach research and team building
    • Fluency in written and spoken English

    Additional desirable skills/experiences (not required):

    • Experience in fundraising
    • Proficiency in Stata or R
    • Proficiency in written and spoken Spanish, French, Arabic, or Chinese (Mandarin)
