    Gender & Communication Officer

    Job Description

    The Gender and Communication Officer is responsible for the institutionalization of gender equality across GIZ Ghana and communicating country-related information both within and outside of GIZ.

    Tasks

    Communication

    • Support in the developing and implementing the country’s communication strategy
    • Deal with all questions arising in this area directed towards corporate communication
    • Advise projects in the country in their communication work and manage the exchange of information between projects, programmes and the GIZ office
    • Assure the quality and compliance with the corporate design guidelines of all kind of publications from projects or programmes
    • Support in building the internal communications function at GIZ Ghana, helping to effectively communicate and reinforce strategy, cultural values, and pertinent updates through the organisation

    Gender

    • Support the management team of GIZ Ghana in identifying the main gender related bottlenecks and needs and in defining priorities for addressing these bottle-necks and needs
    • Advise AV and gender focal persons at project level on gender-related requirements in commission management such as gender markers in appraisal missions / offers, integration of gender analysis results in project concepts/indicators on establishing gender-sensitive result-based monitoring system and reporting on gender in progress reports
    • Support GIZ Ghana make a more systematic and more concrete contribution to promoting the implementation of equal rights for women and men
    • Support in the strategic orientation of the gender policy in Ghana and the respective internal and external communication
    • Advise projects in the country in their gender and communication work and manage the exchange of information between projects, programmes and the GIZ office
    • Motivate, develop capacities and raise awareness regarding gender equality among managers and colleagues
    • Train gender and communication focal persons in the projects and programmes
    • Cooperating with GIZ’s gender network, managing the exchange of information on Gender

    Qualification Required & Experience

    • Master’s Degree in Social Science, Communication, Gender Studies or related field
    • Comprehensive knowledge of the concepts of gender mainstreaming
    • A minimum of 5 years practical experience in the implementation of gender mainstreaming approaches in programmes and/or at institutional level
    • Experience with the design and implementation of gender sensitive result-based monitoring systems desirable
    • Strong analytical, negotiation and advisory skills
    • Ability to express oneself well both verbally and in writing,polished, target-group oriented style
    • Editorial experience, experience in writing articles and press releases
    • Experienced in project and/or event management
    • Strong coordination skills in order to bring together stakeholders and balance their interests
    • Understanding of strategic approached and experiences in developing and implementing communication strategies/plans
    • Ability to take initiative and work in a multi-cultural environment
    • Ability to work independently but also in a team
    • Very good working knowledge of ICT technologies (related software, phone,fax, email, the internet) and computer applications (e.g MS Office)
    • Excellent knowledge of the English language
    • Willingness to traveling within and outside the country
    • Willingness to up-skill as required by the tasks to be performed – corresponding measures are agreed with management

    Project Manager – (m/f/d) Developing Risk Management Approaches For Climate and Health Risks

    Poor households in developing countries are vulnerable and exposed to manifold risks. The financial consequences of shocks such as illness, death and natural disasters are a major factor contributing to poverty. The Strategic Alliance (STA) GIZ-Allianz-BIMA is a public-private-partnership (DeveloPPP) joining forces to develop risk management approaches for pilot regions in Morocco, Ghana and India.The project component on “mobile insurance” develops and implements in partnership with BIMA pilot activities to increase awareness and usage of mobile insurance services by: (i) developing innovative distribution channels enabling access to insurance, (ii) increasing the value proposition of health insurance products by bundling risk management services with other non-financial risk management and reduction services and (iii) promoting regulatory frameworks supportive for mobile insurance development.

    Job Description

    • Carrying out proactively all project activities of the component “mobile insurance” operating in Ghana and support Morocco and Egypt
    • Cooperating closely with both project partners Allianz and BIMA to pilot a new approach of mobile insurance, improving financial literacy and responsible selling, providing guidance to two national staff members in Ghana
    • Conducting research to generate knowledge with a focus on mobile insurance, capacity building and disruptive insurance distribution channels and mobile insurance regulation
    • Editing technical papers and providing input to relevant events (knowledge dissemination)
    • Developing concepts and strategies to scale up or replicate project outcomes in other regions/countries
    • Supporting the head of project in key account management
    • Taking responsibility of an effective knowledge management for the overall project
    • Coordination and engagement with neighbouring departments within GIZ to bring great ideas into a welcoming and international team

    Qualification Required & Experience

    • Master degree in a relevant technical field: economics finance, ideally but not necessarily combined with health risk management or InsureTech
    • At least longstanding work experience in financial systems (banking or best insurance industry), wordbank, regional development banks or international NGOs, indeally as a mix in developing countries and industrial countries
    • GIZ experience is based on the project setting a clear plus
    • Keen interest in using innovation to promote financial and health inclusion – by disrupting the traditional insurance markets
    • Team oriented mentality
    • Strong organisational, analytical & SCRUM Project Implementation skills
    • Excellent interpersonal, liaison and cross-cultural skills
    • Experience in the international development cooperation
    • Fluent in English, knowledge of German is desired
