    Editor/Writer

    Job purpose
    The Editor/Writer will work to ensure that materials published by Solidaridad West Africa are clear, concise, accurate, logical, targeted, of the right quantity, of superior quality and in good taste. The incumbent shall be the gatekeeper of the Solidaridad writing, editing and publishing policy and guidelines or develop same, where necessary. 

    The position reports directly to the Head of Communication.  

    Major Responsibilities

    • Strategically plan, coordinate and guide the writing, editing and revision of publications.
    • Develop and promote writing and editorial guidelines for Solidaridad West Africa based on the corporate writing guide and publication policy.
    • Research, create, edit, revise and rewrite materials for publication, including articles, news stories, reports, project documents, speeches, newsletters, project leaflets/brochures and web contents.
    • Review text for audio-visual materials, including titles, subtitles, captions and credits before post-production is completed.
    • Consistently train staff in writing, editing and compliance to the Solidaridad style guide and editorial policy. 
    • Review texts from staff to be published on the Solidaridad global website and social media platforms.
    • Ensure that all information, written or visual, accessed on the regional pages of the Solidaridad’s website is accurate and reflects the corporate image and timely.  
    • Cross-check any quotations and references to ensure that materials are well credited and copyright issues are addressed before publishing to refrain from falsity or defamation.

    Required Skills or Experience

    • A Masters’ degree in Communications, Journalism or English. Additional studies or a short course in the sustainable development sector will be an advantage. A Master’s degree preferred.
    • At least 7 years of work experience in creative writing, editing, proofreading or journalism.
    • Experience in writing and editing for a progressive development organization is an advantage
    • Ability to write English clearly with a keen understanding of syntax and the rules of grammar
    • Ability and desire to dig into topics through research to make the writing as accurate and as detailed as possible.
    • Attention to detail and Creative writing skills
    • Ability to tell engaging stories

    Communications Officer

    Job purpose
    The Communications Officer will strategically position Solidaridad in Ghana to deliver its mandate by leading the planning, design and implementation of internal and external communications around programmes and projects.  The position reports directly to the Ghana Country Representative (CR) and functionally to the Head of Communications.  

    Major Responsibilities

    • Develops and implements a comprehensive communication and visibility plan for the Ghana Country Programme in line with the Regional Communications Strategy. 
    • Develops and implements annual communications work plans for the country programme and contributes to the Regional Annual Communications Work Plan.
    • Facilitates the compliance to the Solidaridad brand guide within the context of the Ghana country programme
    • Provides visibility for the country programme and leads the exhibition of Solidaridad’s work at relevant public spaces and platforms. 
    • Develops and maintain close working relations with media outlets, identify media moments and opportunities for Solidaridad and generates press releases and media advisories.   
    • Develops regular news articles and relevant stories on programmes/projects activities and key events for dissemination on the Solidaridad website and social media platforms.
    • Facilitates the production of relevant multimedia products such as videos and photographs for documentation and dissemination on relevant platforms including social media.
    • Packages programme/project results and success stories in easily digestible formats and disseminates to relevant national and regional audiences.
    • Develops a system for organizing, archiving and retrieving multimedia and communication materials. 
    • Provides relevant communication training to staff 

    Required Skills or Experience

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Communications Studies, Public Relations or Journalism. Additional studies or a short course in the sustainable development sector will be an advantage.
    • At least 5  years of work experience in corporate or project communications, media practice and advocacy.
    • Good knowledge and experience in handling camera, design software and web-based management systems
    • Strong social media presence (at least LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter)
    • Strong writing and editing skills 
    • Experience in media relations 
    • Knowledge of sustainable development 
    • Experience in the usage of computers, office software packages and social media platforms

    Project Coordinator – SAT4Business

    Job purpose
    The Project Coordinator- SAT4Business will facilitate the development of Digital Financial Services for smallholder farmers in the Oil Palm and Cocoa. The role will develop financial information products and services for farm service providers, farmers and financial providers via digital interactive market place.

    Major Responsibilities 

    Administrative and Setup of SAT4Buisness 

    • Lead the registration and shareholding structure for SAT4Business joint-venture
    • Coordinate the completion of the SAT4Business joint-venture business plan and financial model
    • Setup of the governance and administrative structures for the SAT4Business joint-venture
    • Ensure the creation and implementation of a business growth strategy. 
    • Coordinate the development of risk assessments and response strategy for Sat4Busines joint-venture
    • Coordinate the development of the Corporate Social Responsibility strategy for Sat4Buisiness joint-venture
    • Develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for engaging project consortium partners 
    • Develop annual action plans based on the business plan

    Programme Management 

    • Coordinate the development of key performance goals for consortium/implementing partners
    • Coordinate the establishment of a fit-for-purpose PMEL system
    • Engage 3rd party implementing partners
    • Develop partner engagement contracts with 3rd party implementation partners
    • Develop and manage work breakdown structure for the SAT4Business digital products and services
    • Develop project deliverables and project implementation plans ensuring adherence to quality standards
    • Lead research and development of SAT4Buisiness products and services
    • Lead the development of progress update and annual reporting (including financial reports) to project donors 
    • Manage project execution to ensure adherence to budget, schedule, and scope

    Management, Coordination and Reporting

    • Coordinate periodic meetings of consortium partners for the programme
    • Monitor or track project milestones and deliverables together with PMEL at Solidaridad 
    • Direct or coordinate activities of project personnel assigned to SAT4Business
    • Provide periodic communication to management about the progress of the programme

    Required Skills or Experience

    • A Bachelor’s degree in Agricultural Business, Finance, Project Management or related field
    • 5 years  minimum experience in a similar role
    • Proven experience in access to finance for agribusinesses and smallholder farmers
    • Proven experience in leading the development of digital tools and services 
    • Proven experience working in agriculture and agribusiness financing
    • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and organizational skills
    • In-depth understanding of the cocoa and oil palm supply chains will be an added advantage
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
