    Underground Maintenance General Foreman – Operations

    About This Role:

    • To coordinate with the Mechanical, Electrical and Controls General Foremen on the operation of the associated production plant and equipments, with the aim of delivering optimum plant productivity whilst maintaining the highest standards in regard to safety, efficiency and good housekeeping.

    In This Role You Will:

    Underground mine infrastructure operations oversight and supervision

    • Build and develop an operations team capable of meeting the business requirements of the underground mine.
    • Develop and implement operations strategies, budgets and plans to ensure the maximum availability of the fixed plant at optimum cost.
    • Collaborate with the supply chain department and maintenance planning to ensure that all the necessary materials and supplies are available to maintain the underground mine and associated facilities.
    • Oversee operations in the crushing plant and other underground mine infrastructure.
    • Oversee the development and review of the standard task procedures (STPs) and standard operating procedures (SOPs), management plans and guidelines.
    • Ensure adherence to operating parameters, make decisions on operating conditions/ parameters and take necessary corrective action to minimize operation variations.
    • Oversee the progress made by the shift team and monitor results and quality at each operation stage.
    • Work with the maintenance team to coordinate the maintenance requirements for the underground mine infrastructure to meet the needs of the business.
    • Coordinate production shutdowns and start-ups of the underground mine infrastructure to minimize delays.
    • Manage and control costs within own area, where possible (i.e. reduce waste, improve operational control).
    • Coordinate and execute procedural and operational projects and changes within the underground mine infrastructure areas by following the change management procedure.
    • Ensure that operations team employees are being trained and developed in accordance with the NGGL personnel development program.
    • Manage and supervise contractors engaged in operation related activities for the underground mine.
    • Supervise allocated staff member(s).

    Health, Safety and Environment

    • Comply with all HSLP, Environment and Social Responsibility requirements under Newmont’s Integrated Management System.
    • Accept responsibility for the health and safety of employees under or assigned to his / her supervision.
    • Oversee that security procedures are followed to minimize the opportunities for theft of material or company property.

    Reporting

    • Be responsible for the compilation, operations and management of an accurate, complete and up to date schematic register for the underground mine and associated infrastructure.
    • Produce operation related reports as required and distributes to the relevant personnel and mine officials.
    • Complete reports accurately detailing production variances, restrictions, hazards, maintenance requirements and oversee all corrective actions.
    • Ensure that shift handover and other meetings as required are conducted in an efficient and orderly manner.

    Your Training, Skills & Experience Checklist:

    Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):

    • Bachelors’ Degree in Extractive Metallurgy or Chemistry or equivalent is highly desirable.
    • A trade qualification in a mechanical, electrical or automation field is highly desirable.

    Process Control Engineer

    Purpose

    •     This role has the primary responsibility to manage, maintain and administer the fixed plant control systems within the Newmont SUG mine to ensure they meet the needs of the business and are operating safely, efficiently and effectively.
    •     The incumbent will provide expert technical advice on control and automation systems, equipment and technologies and monitor the fixed plant automation systems and engineering control functions, implement engineering improvements and upgrades as required to ensure such systems are maintained to the highest standards and comply with Newmont guidelines and industry best practice.

    In This Role You Will:

    •     Configure and deploy an update to the control loop monitoring software for the fixed plant control system at Subika plant facilities, including capture of this data in the plant historian and the creation and administration of a dashboard to present the health of the control loops.
    •     Provide expert technical advice on control and automation systems, software, equipment and technologies.
    •     Configure, deploy and maintain an update to the alarm monitoring software for the fixed plant control system at Subika plant facilities, including capture of aggregated alarm count data in the plant historian and the creation and administration of a dashboard to present the alarm performance.
    •     Design, plan and manage projects as directed by the Electrical & Instrumentation General Foreman.
    •     Perform regular servicing and maintenance on all instrumentation and control systems equipment, in line with approved maintenance standards to achieve the required plant and equipment availability.
    •     Troubleshoot hardware, software and instrumentation problems relating to control and automation systems
    •     PLC programming using ladder logic and/or function blocks and HMI programming.
    •     Responsible for creating or maintaining automation processes and ability to solve engineering problems using mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, thermo-dynamic or pneumatic principles.
    •     Review specifications, I&C control drawings, HMI screens, PLC programming and SACAD etc.
    •     Provide guidance and advice for supervisors and tradesmen in the area of control and automation systems and assist in the automation of equipment.
    •     Create training packages and deliver training for site personnel on the operation and management of all the process control monitoring tools that constitute the standard process control platform.
    •     Carry out regular system audits and checks to ensure the control systems are operating reliably and effectively.
    •     Perform and maintain regular backups for all control and automation equipment software.
    •     Identify, notify and advise management of any major risks, faults or problems that may occur with the control and automation systems and recommend or implement appropriate solutions.
    •     Provide timely and detailed reports on fixed plant automation systems and engineering control functions status as required.
    •     Support and conduct risk assessments for tasks and provide expert advice for safety with automation and control systems.

    Training & Experience
    Working Conditions
    Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations)

    •     Bachelors’ Degree in Computer Science / Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
    •     PLC programming qualifications are highly desirable.
    •     Mincom certification highly desirable

    Additional Knowledge:

    •     In-depth knowledge in advance process control (APC), distributed control systems (DCS), programmable logic controller (PLC) and supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA)
    •     Demonstrated expertise with sensors, instruments, motors, PLC’s, SCADA and industrial automation.
    •     Knowledge of current electrical safety standards such as NEC and OSHA.
    •     Ability to understand P&ID’s, drawings, plans and industry specifications  Experience in project management.  Application design and integration, cloud computing (specifically Microsoft Azure)
    •     Expert knowledge in 3D CAD software
    •     Strong knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards.
    •     Strong knowledge of the work management process.
    •     Strong knowledge in PLC and SCADA control systems.

    Experience:

    •     Supervisory experience is highly desirable.
    •     High level understanding of the following elements:
    •     Rockwell Automation (RSLogix, Control Logix and Compact Logix PLC’s)
    •     Modicorn Schneider Automation (Unity and Concept, Quantum and M540/580 PLC’s)

    Process Mechanical Technician

    Purpose

    • To conduct the safe troubleshooting, replacement, repair, testing and general maintenance of mechanical equipment and systems, according to mechanical codes and specifications, to optimise plant processing and production.

    Essential Duties
    1.   Mechanical Maintenance

    •     Execute on mechanical maintenance tasks for completion, arising out of schedules received from the Mechanical Supervisor.
    •     Identify, resolve and correct detected mechanical faults and defects in equipment.
    •     Troubleshoot technical and / or operational problems.
    •     Conduct in-depth investigations into faults affecting equipment operations and process flows.
    •     Perform routine maintenance on all mechanical equipment, in line with approved maintenance standards.
    •     Perform a variety of other maintenance tasks, including predictive and preventative mechanical maintenance.
    •     Utilise hand tools, portable electrical tools and maintenance shop equipment safely and effectively.
    •     Read and utilise precision measuring tools.
    •     Attend to mechanical breakdowns.
    •     Identify damaged mechanical parts and repair and replace these, when necessary.
    •     Overhaul gyratory, MMD Oxide and cone crusher and its associated accessories.
    •     Conduct inspection and overhaul rockbreaker.
    •  Undertake mechanical maintenance including:
    • Overhauling of different types of pumps, gearboxes and other equipment.
    •  Conducting change-outs of mill motors and associated bearings.
    • Conducting routine equipment running checks.
    • Rebuilding various types of vibrating screens.
    • Conducting repair works on conveyors and associated accessories.
    • Disassembling and assembling various gearboxes for repair works and pumps for repair work to be carried out
    • Rebuilding and installation of cyclones.
    • Conducting repair works on mills (i.e. both sag and ball).
    • Conducting servicing and repairs to overhead cranes.
    • Conducting repair works on Elution heat exchangers and associated accessories.
    • Conducting inspections on Agitators and making repairs to accessories.
    • Rebuilding of agitator drive shafts and installations.
    • Test repaired equipment to determine the extent of effective functioning.
    • Provide practical and technical assistance relevant to the trade to the Mechanical Supervisor.
    • Conduct thorough shift handover, detailing all relevant information for the incoming crew.
    • Report and record all necessary shift information in log books.
    • Work with the Mechanical Supervisor to maintain optimal mechanical performance of the Process Plant.
    • Participate in continuous improvement programs which will assist in enhancing the performance of the Ahafo Process Plant operation.
    • Contribute to the development of Standard Task Procedures (STP’s).
    • Strive to reduce downtime and minimise costs.

    Additional Job Requirements
    1.   Health, Safety and Environment

    •     Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
    •     Maintain general housekeeping of tools utilised.
    •     Participate in regular (i.e. daily) safety leadership efforts.

    2.  Reporting

    •     Maintain records of maintenance and repair work.
    •     Compile reports on field observations and factor results into weekly / fortnightly planning.
    •     Produce daily reports indicating the jobs completed for the day and submit the report to the Mechanical Supervisor.

    3.   Solutions Analysis

    •     Troubleshoot and diagnose mechanical equipment for emergency repairs, conduct visual inspections with guidance.
    •     Diagnose whether to fix or replace machines.
    •     Analyse specified problems and issues to find the best technical solutions within OEM specifications, and in accordance with local standards.

    4.   Work Scheduling and Allocation

    •     Accomplish work objectives by determining own daily work and prioritisation schedule.
    •     Coordinate with support services and assign short-term tasks to other Technicians, as necessary.
    •     Respond to inquiries and instructions in a professional manner.

    Training & Experience

    • Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
    •     Diploma or relevant certification in Mechanical Engineering.

    Additional Knowledge:

    •     Knowledge of maintenance principles and industry standards.
    •     Knowledge of the work management process.
    •     Knowledge of planning and scheduling.
    •     Sound knowledge in portable hand and power tools.

    Experience:

    •     Minimum of 3 – 4 years’ experience in a mining process plant or similar environment.

    Technical Skills:

    •     Sound analytical and problem-solving skills.
    •     Sound communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.
    •     Sound computer literacy skills (SAP, MS Word, Outlook and other Windows applications).
    •     Ability to communicate clearly and concisely with Foremen, Maintenance Personnel, other Operators and Senior Staff.
    •     Ability to troubleshoot, check tolerances on bearings and use precision measuring tools.
    •     Ability to conduct mill motor change outs, as well as bearings during overhaul.
    •     Ability to identify problems and to report by using technical names of equipment parts.
    •     Ability to successfully depressurise all hydraulic units and carry out maintenance jobs.
    •     Ability to conduct repairs on vibrating screens and hacking of screen deck rails.
    •     Have knowledge in gyratory, MMD Sizer and cone crushers maintenance
