    Senior Engineer Mining – Medium Term Planning

    To supervise and lead the Medium and Long-Term planning efforts at Ahafo North mine through directing and executing key functions such as:

    • Medium and Long-Term Mine Design and Scheduling.
    • Project Analyses and Feasibility Studies.
    • Ore Control.
    • Reconciliations.
    • Geotechnical Analyses.
    • Mine Engineering Systems Analyses and Design.

    The duties and responsibilities listed below are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are notnecessarily all-inclusive.

    In This Role You Will:

    Budget and Cost Control Management

    • Provide S&ER with reclamation schedules and costs.
    • Manage Medium Term Planning’s expenditure within the approved budget and sign-off limits to maintain effective cost controls and savings.

    Health, Safety and Environment

    • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and / or provide support services, by applying Newmont’s Health, Safety and Environment systems, policies and protocols.
    • Meet mining objectives and conform to Newmont mining standards, geotechnical and operational physical standards to promote safe mining operations within legislative guidelines.
    • Assure that safety standards are adhered to.

    Medium-Term Planning Execution

    • Compile and consolidate quarterly mine plan forecasts.
    • Provide expertise and guidance on cut-off grade boundaries to use for short-term and grade-control modeling.
    • Oversee the execution of project analyses to determine Medium-Term mining efforts.
    • Oversee the commissioning of project and future Life of Mine feasibility studies and request regular updates regarding outcomes.
    • Oversee the implementation of detailed geotechnical analyses.
    • Prepare detailed reports aggregating conclusion reached out of analyses and feasibility studies.

    Mine Planning

    • Lead the open pit budget process for the site and supervise the creation of Life of Mine Plan during each budget and forecasting cycle.
    • Develop Life of Mine (LOM) business plan to safely, efficiently and cost effectively determine the future mining feasibilities of Ahafo North mine by overseeing:
      • LOM Scheduling (mining sequencing).
      • LOM Metal Process Blending.
      • LOM Cost Modeling with Xeras.
    • Provide technical expertise to all Mine Planning and production teams to enable full optimisation of miningoperations.
    • Produce the LOM Mining Operations cost model.
    • Determine final outputs of the LOM cost model.
    • Manage mine planning resources and software to deliver business section targets.
    • Communicate to the mine site and wider region, the developed LOM business plan mining assumptions and LOM mining plan and costs.

    Tool Management

    • Initiate fleet KPI’s activity refresh, based on predictive modeling.
    • Model KPI’s for LOM planning, based on SQL Data extractions from dispatch database servers; data transformation (R/Python and Excel) and predictive modeling (R/Python).
    • Initiate mining fleets activity refresh through coordinating the update of the fleets list.
    • Utilise the minesight pit expansion tool to design or redesign/ modify pits, dumps and stockpiles.

    Stakeholder Management

    • Engage with relevant Subject Matter Experts at Global Headquarters to leverage best practices into Medium Term Planning approach.
    • Collaborate with Site and Regional Finance and Business Planning teams, Regional Strategic Planning teams and S&ER leadership to adequately fulfil Life of Mine objectives.
    • Facilitate external stakeholder requests to enable smooth and efficient running of mine planning processes to address and resolve issues in a timely manner.
    • Communicate key pieces of the business plan to relevant departments to ensure all departments costs are aligned to the Business Plan.

    Staff Management

    • Lead the Mine Engineers in the execution of tasks.
    • Train, coach, and mentor allocated Mine Engineers as well as assist with personal career planning.
    • Conduct performance appraisals and recommend further / relevant training courses and development actions.

    • Formal Qualification (including professional registrations)
    • Bachelors’ Degree in Mine Engineering.

    Additional Knowledge:

    • Mine Captain Certification of Competency.
    • Advanced knowledge of Medium Term planning and scheduling.
    • Advanced knowledge of exploration methods and resource estimations.
    • Advanced knowledge in the use of Mine Planning Software.
    • Seasoned knowledge of mine methods, mine design, production scheduling, equipment selection, reserve estimation, maintenance development and expert systems.

    Experience:

    • Minimum 7 – 8 years’ experience in a Surface Mining field within a large-scale Open Pit mining environment.
    • Extensive Mine Planning experience in a range of mining applications.
    • Extensive site-mine planning experience in multi-mine, multiprocess situations.
    • High level of experience in Project Evaluation.
    • Experience in differing ore deposits for gold and multi-element base metals.

    Technical Skills:

    • Strong technical acumen in Mine Planning systems and software.
    • Extensive mine planning experience in a range of mining applications.
    • Knowledge of exploration methods, resource estimation.
    • Experience in differing ore deposits for gold and multi-element base metals.
    • Site mine planning experience in multi-mine, multi-process situations.
    • Seasoned knowledge of; mine methods, mine design, production scheduling, equipment selection, reserve estimation, maintenance development and expert systems.
    • High level of experience in project evaluation.
    • High level of competence in the use of mine planning software, including optimal techniques and cash flow analysis.
    • Ability to build and maintain strong communications network with peers, Project Managers, Mine Managers,
    • Chief Engineers, and JV partner representatives.
    • Strong problem solving and 3D visualization skills.
    • Strong technical writing, group presentation skills
    • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
    • Strong communication (written and verbal) and interpersonal skills.

      • Work Environment: The noise level in the office is not in excess of 85 decibels. Incumbent may only very occasionally be exposed to noise, fumes, high temperatures, hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, unpaved pathways, pinch-points, extreme vibration, excavators and drilling rigs, slippery surfaces.
      • Incumbent is based primarily in an office-based environment and a high degree of focus and attention is required to deliver reliable, accurate work.

    Geophysical Technologist

    To execute geophysical exploration surveys and programs by operating specialized instruments, collecting data and handling the administrative activities.
    Essential Duties

    • Collect data according to technical standards and as per specific requirements of the survey.
    • Filters geophysical data to check quality and assess requirement to re-collect data.
    • Generates a preliminary data interpretation for discussion with the Geophysicist, (and broader geological team).
    • Operate instruments as instructed by the Geophysicist and according to standards.
    • Identify when instruments require calibration or repair.
    • Arrange for instruments to be repaired.
    • Manages all local operational resources on the survey or program.
    • Provides any required training to staff.
    • Manages all staff administrative tasks.
    • Deliver own prescribed outcomes and/or provide support services by following Newmont’s Health and Safety systems and protocols.
    • Oversee that all work carried out adheres to Health and Safety standard operating procedures.
    • Conduct daily meetings to discuss Health and Safety threats.
    • Identify and resolve safety issues within area of responsibility.

    Training & Experience

    • Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
    • Bsc. Degree in Geosciences or related field with knowledge of geological principles.

    Experience:

    • 2-3 years of industry experience in a mining or exploration environment.

    Technical Skills:

    • Geophysical techniques including the use of specialized instruments, how to collect data and an understanding of what the data means.
    • The ability to communicate effectively and efficiently at all levels in the organization.
    • The ability to apply the principles of problem solving techniques to identify and resolve a problem in the best interest of all stakeholders.
