    Farm Service Officer

    The position is embedded in Barry Callebaut’s Ghana local sustainability team, with direct reporting to the Sustainability Sector Manager in the different sectors of operations as defined by the company in Ghana. The recruits will be key in supporting the existing team in translating project goals and objectives into deliverables in the communities.

    Responsibilities:

    •  Supervising farms of registered producers to ensure compliance with certification standards;
    •  Maintain all relevant database of district farmer group details ( trainings , input, planting materials and volumes records);
    • Give technical advice on good agricultural practices;
    • Lead the organization of annual internal inspections by internal inspectors; 
    • Follow-up on non-compliances detected in the internal inspections and assist in their correction.
    • Ensure that the company is able to successfully pass certification standards carried out in your operational area by the company; 
    • Takes part in the sanctioning and approval process of producers; 
    • Give technical advice on good environmental practices;  
    • Carryout farmer Trainings and see to the adoption by farmers of various interventions embarked upon by the company in the district of operation; 
    • Provide assistance during client visits in your area of operation;  
    • Submit weekly progress reports to sector managers;  
    • Work on demonstrational plots to use as a point of reference by farmers on new technologies;  
    • Lead the selection of farmers to benefit from under-planting and provide technical guidance for the success of the fields;
    • Take charge with the guidance of the sector manager to implement client projects for which the technical officer's district is selected; 
    • Lead in community development activities- Community Child Protection Committee developments, Hybrid Community development activities, District Committee formations, women empowerment, child Census, etc.  
    • Custodian of all company assets e.g. pole pruners, Motorbikes etc. handed to you for your work as a technical officer.

    Qualifications: 

    • A minimum qualification of Diploma in Agriculture/Social Works/ Community Development, a degree or a masters in the above named fields will be an added advantage. 
    • Sufficient experience and or knowledge in cocoa production. 
    • Ability to speak the local language of the people is an added advantage.

    Skills: 

    • Ability to ride a motorbike and with a valid license; 
    • Good Communication Skills; 
    • Ability, willingness to work in the rural communities of Ghana; 
    • Knowledge in Good Agronomic Practices ;  
    • Must demonstrate great interest in Agriculture and social work;

    Livelihood Officer

    The position is embedded in Barry Callebaut’s Ghana local sustainability team, with direct reporting to  the FC Pilots / Sustainable livelihoods Manager, under the Sustainability Business  and will be the responsible person for providing technical inputs to effectively coordinate and implement appropriate crop and livestock development interventions through strong coordination with partners ensuring the interventions under The Forever Chocolate Program  in the districts contributes to the overall programme goal, objectives and outcomes, as well as FC overarching vision - "Getting all farmers in BC supply chain out of poverty through responsible agricultural labour practices and environmental stewardship inclined livelihood development and support for these farmers and their communities’’.  
     
    The Officer shall be responsible to ensure capacity enhancement of community and partners' staffs on improved or sustainable agriculture and livestock development initiatives. The incumbent should also boost morale of community and project partners' staff to work hard and cultivate spirit of teamwork, consultation, mutual learning, synergy and leveraging of resources in order to deliver quality outputs. S/he will also be responsible for establishing and maintaining congenial working relationships with the government officials, donors, media, local NGO partners and other key stakeholders on the FC livelihood projects in BC operational zones in Ghana. 

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1: IMPLEMENTATION AND COORDINATION: 

    ●    Ensure project interventions are timely and effectively implemented in compliance with planning and expected result. 
    ●    Effectively coordinate with the project field team in identifying communities where agriculture, livestock and irrigation interventions are most needed which could boost up agricultural production and bring about long-term effects on household and community poverty reduction
    ●    Liaise with MOFA and District Agricultural Directorates  to identify ongoing and new projects that can be leveraged upon to achieve BC Forever objective
    ●    Identify and promote most suitable vegetables that adapt better to the local environment and have ready markets for the produces  
    ●    Promote most suitable breeds of livestock and poultry, and  appropriate feed for commercial impact on investment at household and community level
    ●    Effectively coordinate in implementation of vaccination campaigns, treatment and all other veterinary services. 
    ●    In conjunction with the project value chain team, advise farmers on how to look for new markets for their products. 
    ●    Play a key role in identifying issues to be addressed and maintain a positive image and visibility of BC project in the intervention clusters

    2: MONITORING AND QUALITY CONTROL: 
    ●    Regular field visits and monitoring of field activities to ensure timely and quality implementation of the activities at site level. 
    ●    Ensure that agriculture development strategies and activities are designed and implemented based on sound contextual analysis. 
    ●    Ensure that project’s operating model is adapted to changing environment to better respond to challenges, leverage opportunities and minimize potential risks. 
    ●    Ensure project partners and other stakeholders are aware, positive and supportive to the agriculture project through transparent and timely information sharing. 
    ●    Ensure that farmers' interests are addressed and partners' feedback is reflected. 
    ●    Ensure project's relevance based on farmers' and stakeholders' feedback. 
    ●    Ensure that proper monitoring and evaluation systems are in place to enhance accountability and to demonstrate the impact of livelihood interventions. 
    ●    Establish mechanisms for knowledge sharing and learning within project and with other stakeholders beyond the project

    3: DATA COLLECTION, SYNTHESIS AND REPORT WRITING:  
    ●    Assist in developing work plans working with the FC cluster management team 
    ●    Prepare and submit quarterly progress reports and annual summary report to the project manager
    ●    Prepare human interest stories based on outstanding case studies from agriculture development initiatives. 
    ●    Ensure that lessons learnt are well documented and shared among the team and project partners. 
    ●    Document, analyze and synthesize findings and produce reports for wider sharing. 

    4: COMMUNICATION, NETWORKING AND PARTNERSHIP:
    ●    Ensure effective communication is maintained among partners to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of our interventions. 
    ●    Build and nurture relationships between community, local stakeholders and partners so that the project can maximize its impact. 
    ●    Work closely with partners and play effective role in identifying issues to be addressed and resolution of potential conflicts in a timely and agreeable manner. 
    ●    Establish and maintain congenial working relationships with multi-partners, relevant government line agencies, donors, private sectors and civil society organizations. 
    ●    Maintain a positive image and visibility of project amongst these groups. 
    ●    Contribute to local, district, regional and national dialogue on crops and livelihoods poverty reduction strategies and other related issues. 

    5: ADMIN, FINANCE, HR AND COMPLIANCE: 
    ●   Assist FC District Technical Officers in reviewing the program and its strategies.. 
    ●  Ensure timely assistance on administrative matters of the project activities. 
    ●  Ensure adequate understanding of the FC program strategies, plans and approaches by all partners' staff and other key stakeholders.
    ●    Ensure that the agriculture interventions are managed in a manner which is in line with the government policies and procedures, and achieves the project outcomes and demonstrate remarkable change. 
    ●    Cross sharing of FC program learning to key stakeholders. 
    ●    Ensure livelihood interventions are conducted in accordance with all statutory requirements.

    REQUIRED ACADEMIC & TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
    ●   Masters/Bachelors in Agriculture/Animal Science/Veterinary Science or related field with 2years of work experience in relevant field. 

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:
    ●    Experience and knowledge in livelihood value chain development as well as horticultural crops is a key essential need for this role
         
    TECHNICAL / FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES:
    ●    Demonstrated experience in operational planning in a complex context/setting; strong conceptual, interpersonal, communication negotiation, facilitation and representation skills. 
    ●    Demonstrated experience in monitoring and evaluation; team building and ability to coach and mentor community and partners' staffs. 
    ●    Demonstrated use of positive coping strategies in stressful work environments; knowledge and experience with donor compliance and reporting. 
    ●    Experience in establishing and maintaining collaborative relationships with donors, government counterparts, private sectors and national and international civil society organizations. 
    ●    Knowledge on developing logframe based work plan, outcome based monitoring, and good report writing skills. 

    INTERPERSONAL / LEADERSHIP COMPETENCIES:
    ●    Self-motivated with time and stress management skills. 
    ●    Networking skills to effectively correspond with a diverse audience in different setting.

    Child Labour Remediation Officer

    The position is embedded in Barry Callebaut’s Ghana local sustainability team, with direct reporting to the FC Pilots / Sustainable livelihoods Manager, under the Sustainability Business Division and the Child labour Remediation Officer will be the responsible person to focus on Barry Callebaut Zero Child labour initiative to reduce child labour incidence in the Company supply chain in Ghana. The Child labour Remediation Officer will be responsible for overall project management, supervision, administration, and implementation of the project. S/he will establish and maintain systems for project operations; ensure that all cooperative agreement deadlines are met and targets are achieved; coordinate and maintain working relationships with project stakeholders (including government entities, partner company, sub-grantees and/or subcontractors); lead collaborative initiatives with relevant government ministries and officials; and oversee the preparation and submission of technical and financial reports to management.

    KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    In particular, the Child labour Remediation Officer will:

    • Coordinate the roll-out of the Child-Labour Monitoring and Remediation System in defined farmers groups in Ghana, including recruit and oversee the training of field staff, coordinate community awareness raising sessions and ensure timely data collection.
    • Aggregate, review and analyse the data collected to be presented in comprehensive reports.
    • Document lessons learned and coordinate the development of recommendations for sustainable child labour remediation
    •  Maintain working relationships with the partner company and all projects on child labour stakeholders; engage in coalition building and public-private partnerships promotion.
    • Develop and oversee the programme’s annual planning and the timely, high quality implementation of activities and deliverables.
    • Overseeing the monitoring and evaluation of projects implementation.
    • Oversee the programme budget and ensure that all financial activity is carried out in accordance with annual budget allocations and BC policy.
    • Prepare and submit timely and accurate programme, financial, and procurement reports to donors/clients.
    • Maintain close communication with donor/clients, reporting regularly for formal review sessions and providing ongoing, informal updates of program progress.
    • Provide technical assistance, support, and information to national and local government officials.
    • Undertake regular field visits to the different project locations in order to assess progress, identify implementation problems, advocate for consensus building and take corrective measures.
    • Other duties as assigned

    REQUIRED ACADEMIC & TECHNICAL QUALIFICATIONS:

    Degree level required, in international development, management, social science, human rights, education, economic development, law, public policy, or other related field of study. Successful candidates will have proven leadership and project management skills as well as experience in implementing child protection programmes, preferably those aimed at combatting child labour and improving livelihoods in Ghana/West Africa. Fluency in English is required, knowledge of Akan languages of Ghana, including Twi, Asante and Fante is preferred.

    ESSENTIAL EXPERIENCE / KNOWLEDGE:

    • Knowledge or understanding of social, economic, and political context governing child labour issues and analysis in developing countries.
    •  Experience with public-private partnership building, working with labour unions and workers groups.
    • Experience working with local and international private firms to address child labour in supply chains.
    • Knowledge of US Government regulations, policies, and procedures or those of an equivalently complex international government funding organization.
    •  Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills, creative problem solving, conflict, and ethical management skills.
    • General knowledge of data collection and project monitoring and evaluations.
    • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
    • Computer literate in word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (Microsoft).
    •  Proven supervisory skills overseeing the work of multi-disciplinary technical teams, including livelihoods, vocational training, leadership, social protection and monitoring and evaluation.
    • Fluency in English is required, knowledge of an Akan language is preferred.

    TECHNICAL / FUNCTIONAL COMPETENCIES

    • Experience in project leadership role in implementing development projects relevant to international children’s issues, labour issues, and company supply chain compliance programs.
    • Experience successfully managing projects supported by the private entities or similar donor agencies (including meeting deadlines, achieving targets and overseeing the preparation and submission of required reports).
    • Experience with public-private partnership building, working with labour unions and workers groups, specifically in the cocoa-growing sector.
    • Broad knowledge of child protection, harmful child work and social protection, and relevant socioeconomic, institutional and policy issues that are related to this area of work.
    • Proven ability to manage a diverse team of professionals, with good communication and interpersonal skills and an ability to motivate/lead staff.
    • Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills including influencing, negotiation and coaching.
    • Experience working with government partners, with partner agencies, including local partners, in consortia, and relevant to child protection programming.
    • Good track record working with and/or partnering with a variety of individuals and organizations of international agencies, private sector companies, and donor organizations.
    • Willingness to stay and work in field locations.
    • Ability to drive with a valid Ghanaian driver’s license
