    Underground General Foreman – Mechanical

    Chirano is located in southwestern Ghana, approximately 100 kilometres southwest of Kumasi, Ghana’s second largest city. The mine is within the Bibiani gold belt and consists of 11 deposits. Open pit and underground ore are processed at the Chirano plant. The capacity of the mill is approximately 3.5 million tonnes per annum. Processing involves crushing, ball mill grinding, leaching, and CIL.

    Job Description

    • To ensure the efficient supervision and control of Underground Mobile Equipment Maintenance by allocating and managing resources (people and equipment) to attain production and engineering objectives.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Actively promote Safety culture and Hazard awareness
    • Maintain production goals and objectives as a team
    • Plan and organize maintenance jobs safely and within a budget
    • Ensure relevant Safety, Mining and other statutory Codes and Regulations remain in full compliance, ensures safety at each work place
    • Practice and promote company environmental, health, safety and operational policies and procedures
    • Actively participate in CGML Continuous Improvement program
    • Perform periodical and scheduled inspection programs to maintain CGML Underground assets and infrastructure according to established mine maintenance and engineering standards and keep them in a good condition.
    • Execute the planned jobs according to priorities and the availability of equipment and in accordance with Kinross / CGML work management practices.
    • Distribute maintenance and repair jobs to Underground Mechanical Maintenance supervisors and technicians
    • Diagnose and replace faulty mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic components of machines and equipment.
    • Efficiently perform preventive, breakdown, project, refurbishment repairs and assign maintenance staff according to work requirements and priorities.
    • In case of accidents, perform survey, report accident as per existing policy, proceed for repair, and then issue a report-with photos whenever required.
    • Ensure smooth job  handover to the next shift, with required documentation and JDE entries in place
    • Supervise maintenance and repair works directly or through supervisors, communicate correct procedures and assign duties as required
    • Ensure that Contractors are performing according to contractual obligations with CGML
    • Prepare the regular and necessary reports as required
    • Open, review and close Work Orders in JDE, prepare Purchase Requisitions and estimates
    • Work with other maintenance software tools as required
    • Perform Root Cause Analysis of failures
    • Coordinate with the planning section to set / review required maintenance / repair plans, maintenance schedules and strategies

    Education and Experience

    • HND/Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from a reputable and accredited institution
    • Minimum 8 years’ experience in mining maintenance field
    • Has the skill of planning, deciding priorities and able to plan jobs in coordination with colleagues, other departments, contractors and Government Authorities.
    • Well-developed English oral, written communications and report writing skills.
    • Ability to prepare estimates, tender document specifications for any mechanical works and analyze offers to recommend the best
    • Good computer skills
    • Ability to perform general administrative and supervisory duties to fulfil the requirements of position
    • Must be flexible with the ability to multi-task with strong time management skills.
    • Must act with integrity & professionalism
    • Valid Driver’s License

    Technical Services Manager

    Job Description

    • Lead the execution of strategy for the mine engineering function and ensure alignment with the organization’s overall strategy. Ensure continued growth of the mine engineering team, to maximize operational efficiencies and profitability, and to cultivate exceptional stakeholder and employee satisfaction.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Develop and establish standards of mine design and mine planning aligning with corporate standards
    • Lead execution of mine design and mine plan
    • Interface across departments and outside firms to ensure deliverables align with overall strategy and meet objectives
    • Provide technical support, advice and assistance to operations, technical services and project groups
    • Execute short and intermediate-term strategies that support the growth of the mine engineering team; ensures strategies are concretely linked to the organization’s overall strategy
    • Lead the execution of strategies in the mine engineering team to enhance current practices and performance
    • Develop systems and measures that appropriately assess the team’s performance and review progress to ensure achievement of targets
    • Manage the human, financial, and operational resources of the department.
    • Formulate the annual operating and capital budgets for the team

    • Set performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages the overall performance of the function and direct reports
    • Build the capabilities of the team to enhance the metallurgic team’s ability to achieve financial and operating strategy; identifies succession role requirements and high potential talent and actively develops key talent
    • Train and provide mentorship to all Technical Services staff and implement programs for the retention of employees

    Education and Experience

    • Bachelor of Science in Mining Engineering or its equivalent from a recognized accredited institution
    • Minimum of 15 years of related work experience
    • Knowledge and experience in coordinating the mine engineering functions for study phases, basic and detailed engineering through site development and operations
    • Knowledge and experience in developing policies and procedures relating to safety, the environment and individual, and organizational development
    • Proficiency with Vulcan, Surpac, Mine 24-D, Datamine or other industry standard mining software
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently
    • Must be able to apply standards, policies and procedures relating to confidentiality and the protection of personal and sensitive data.
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail
    • Must be prepared to sit and obtain Chief Mining Engineer certificate of competency from the Minerals Commission within 3 months of appointment

    Principal Operations Engineer

    • Provide coordination, direction, support and where necessary supervision to support the underground activities of the Technical Services Department. Provide these expertise while facilitating the training and mentoring of employees, to develop and build their skills and abilities.

    Job Responsibilities

    • Act as a change agent and project sponsor for key initiatives; model organizational values, sets the cultural tone, and prioritizes business goals
    • Collaborate with management to identify and analyze business requirements and the implications for the team; identifies gaps and implements agreed upon solutions
    • Develop and implement business practices within mine operations that align with the organization’s overall strategy
    • Assist with LOM plan in accordance with Ghanaian Government and Kinross requirements
    • Assist with annual mine development plan for compliance with Ghanaian Government and Kinross requirements
    • Work with the mine planning team and other units in the Technical Services Department to deliver mine plans and financial forecasts in alignment with the organization’s overall strategy
    • Manage work assignment of Operations engineers and drill and blast QA/QC personnel.
    • Manage execution of underground projects, prepare project execution planning, budgeting, and assists in procurement and in providing technical specifications
    • Coordinate with the Underground Mine Captains and U/G Managers for daily, weekly and monthly development heading priorities, ensure KPI’s for u/g development are being met
    • Lead through operational production coordination the activities required to ensure compliance with plans and schedules and ensuring the operational targets are met.
    • Assist shift bosses, mine foremen with operational strategy, short term planning, identifying and prioritizing mining activities.
    • Work closely with mine foremen, mine captains and shift bosses to achieve weekly and monthly production targets through coaching on priorities
    • Ensure that all members of the Technical Services team have clear understanding and direction of Project objectives by leading and controlling the coordination of regular planning meetings, ensuring deliverables are accurately recorded and distributed
    • Assist with the setting of performance targets and measures, monitors, and manages overall performance

    Education and Experience

    • BSc in Mining Engineering or related qualification
    • Minimum of 10 years of related work experience
    • Good working knowledge and experience in underground mine engineering
    • In depth understanding of underground mining methods, ground control methods, blasting techniques, ventilation design, mine design, short term mine planning, iterative long term mine planning, mining production tracking,
    • Proficiency with mining software (GMPs), advanced use of excel and AutoCAD
    • A working knowledge of surveying methods in underground mines, geology, reserve modelling and block modelling, and rock mechanics
    • Experience with Xeras software is desirable
    • Strong engineering skills, a working knowledge of surveying, basic geology modelling, , geostatistical modelling techniques, mine equipment capabilities, and production rates
    • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently
    • Strong analytical mindset and attention to detail

    • Must be prepared to sit and obtain Chief Mining Manager certificate of competency from the Minerals Commission within 3 months of appointment
