To provide semi-skilled assistance including daily provision of lubes, fuel, grease, and inspection of heavy mining and auxiliary equipment to maintenance high standard equipment health to effective maintenance engineering of mining/auxiliary equipment.
Essential Duties
- Maintains daily/shift service, fuel and lubes records, and provides information and recommendations about the equipment to dispatchers and supervisors.
- Perform daily servicing of heavy mining and auxiliary equipment.
- Be responsible for changing transmission oil and other fluids to maintaining equipment or vehicle standards conditions.
- Greasing of all available required greasing points, bearings and examines joints components.
- Ensure service or lube trucks and its nozzles / wigins are always clean and in good condition.
- Daily inspection and report all defects on the service trucks for repairs and correction.
- Observe and adherence to all fatality risk management (FRM) critical controls.

Training & Experience
Formal Qualification (including Professional Registrations):
- Senior High School Certificate or Mechanical technician.

- Work Environment: The noise level in the field environment is minimal. Occasional exposure to noise, fumes, high temperature, moving machinery, hazardous materials, sharp edges, dust, pinch-points, vibration, slippery surfaces, extreme weather conditions.

To operate utility equipment such as small excavators, small loaders, rock breaker, recovery truck, small water truck, telehandler, stemming loader, compactor for road works, wall cleanups and etc. at Newmont in a safe and efficient manner.
Essential Duties I
- Communicate with and receive instruction from the Mine Operations Shift Supervisor and follow specified instructions and daily plans for Load and Haul, as well as Mine Dewatering, prior to the execution of activities.
- Operate one and / or a variety of fleet equipment such as small excavators, small loaders, rock breaker, recovery truck, small water truck, telehandler, stemming loader, compactor.
- Communicate with the Dispatcher regarding hazards encountered to provide sufficient information to the incoming Operators for the smooth running of Operations.
Essential Duties II
- Understand standard operating procedures (SOP’s) and standard task procedures (STP’s), according to the assigned work schedule; interpret and execute on the work schedule.
- Conduct the following activities:
- Pit wall clean ups.
- Building of windrows.
- Digging trenches and other earthworks.
- Positioning water pipelines.
- Feeding mobile crushers.
- Inspect visually and listen to machinery and equipment to diagnose the cause of malfunctions.
- Comply with safe utility equipment procedures.

- Minimum of 2 – 3 years’ experience working with Code D & E Vehicles in an open pit mine environment.

To support the welding and joining of poly (HDPE) pipes, using a variety of techniques, and connecting in-pit sumps to designated ponds, in a safe and controlled manner
Essential Duties I
- Install pumps in a stage / phase approach and connect pipelines to pumps.
- Conduct inspections on the following aspects, prior to carrying out work:
- Pipelines and valves for leakages.
- Fuel level of the pump.
- Sumps.
- Boreholes around the pit.
- Take flow readings from boreholes and report any detected issues to the Maintenance Supervisor
- Check pressure gauges, RPM’s, vacuum gauges and load factors and record these on the KPI sheet.
Essential Duties II
- Monitor the operation of the pumps to ensure that the water in the sump(s) are pumped, from the pit to the designated pond.
- Measure and align pipes for joining, using hand tools and measuring equipment.
- Conduct the construction, installation and laying of pipelines in the pit and the flipping of pipelines over high walls.
- Liaise with the Hydro technical team and submit completed KPI sheets to them.
- Communicate with and receive instruction from the Dewatering Supervisor prior to the execution of activities, to determine where water will be pumped to and to ensure that the system remains open.
