    Spatial Data Analyst

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    • The geospatial data analyst consultant will work in the Data and Analytics Unit, under the direct supervision of both the geospatial data lead and the Chief of the Data and Analytics Unit. The consultant will be responsible for the following tasks in a selected sample of cities from all world regions:
    • Provide technical contributions to the delineation of urban boundaries for calculation of SDG indicators 11.2.1, 11.3.1, and 11.7.1 based on the degree of urbanisation (DEGURBA) approach
    • Provide technical contributions to processing statistics for SDG indicators 11.2.1, 11.3.1, and 11.7.1
    • Provide technical contributions to training, execution and validation of machine learning models developed by DAU for housing stock estimation.
    • Develop scripts for spatial data analysis, support automation, and contribute to capacity-building efforts including training on SDG 11 methodologies.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A first-level university degree in remote sensing, geographic information systems, urban planning, geography, or any other closely related field is required.
    • At least 2 years’ experience working on spatial data analysis, image interpretation, data extraction from satellite imagery and maps creation and digitization.
    • High proficiency in Geographic Information Systems and remote sensing software (egs ArcGIS, ArcGIS online, QGIS, ErdasImagine, ENVI, Google Earth Engine) is required.
    • Experience working as a spatial data analyst is desirable. Knowledge of and experience working with the SDGs is highly desirable. Knowledge in GIS relevant programming skills, geostatistical workflows and GIS online systems will be an added advantage.

    Urban Planner

    Activities and Responsibilities

    • Under the direct supervision Senior Human Settlement Officer for West Africa (SHSO) and the Programme Associate for West Africa, the consultant will carry out the following duties and responsibilities:
    • Support the design and implementation of post-disaster recovery and resilience-building projects in Cabo Verde and identify opportunities for replication and scaling across other island and coastal contexts.
    • Contribute to the feasibility studies and resource mobilization processes for the implementation of the City Resilience Framework for Action (RFA) in Bargny, Senegal, including the identification of strategic funding opportunities.
    • Assist in the development of project proposals on integrated flood management and resilient recovery in the Senegal River and Gambia River Basins, ensuring alignment with regional adaptation priorities.
    • Provide technical support in drafting project documents on flood prevention, urban heat adaptation, and sustainable solid waste management in Ghana’s secondary and coastal cities, promoting cross-sectoral and climate-resilient approaches.
    • Support the implementation of the EU Support for Internally Displaced Persons in Yobe, Adamawa, and Kano States (SIDPIN) and the Ekiti State Sustainable Urban Development Programme (ESSUDP) in Nigeria, particularly their environmental and resilience-building components.
    • Provide guidance on the integration of projects under the scope of UN-Habitat’s programmes in West Africa in the Integrated, Planning, Management, and Reporting (IPMR) platform, including planning and monitoring.
    • Provide inputs and contributions to concept notes and project documents, and guidance for the internal project validation procedure, as well as recruitment processes.

    Qualifications/special skills

    • A Master’s Degree in geography, urban planning, architecture, social sciences, civil engineering, or related field is required.
    • A minimum of 2 years working experience in social or urban development, resource mobilization, project management, international relations, social sciences is required.
    • Experience working on urban resilience and climate change adaptation is required.
