    Application Engineer Intern

    Job Description

    • Collect country specific power market data i.e. load profiles, generation mix i.e. hydro, thermal and renewables, fuel prices, transmission topology for power economics modeling
    • Identify and evaluate the power generation mix of each country and the developmental goals of the countries.
    • Perform power system modeling, simulations and analysis i.e. load flow, short-circuit and dynamic stability for grid impact feasibility studies
    • Provide detail report on the electric power infrastructure in the chosen SSA countries with clarity on the government, donor funding and global financing plans for such countries
    • Continuously track, update and communicate country growth dynamics and communicate impact on country priority for GE action.
    • Effectively communicate study results to both internal and external clients via detailed summary reports and presentations that describe the analysis performed, solutions developed and value proposition
    • Conclude internship with an informative presentation, recommendations and next steps

    Requirement/Skills

     

    • Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or recent grad from an accredited university in, engineering and or economics or equivalent knowledge or experience
    • Strong commercial instincts, tireless research, exact attention to detail and innovative spirit
    • Solid understanding of power systems operations and equipment utilized in the electricity value chain i.e. generation, transmission, distribution and industrial
    • Excellent project management skills; demonstrated process orientation and execution focus
    • Exceptional interpersonal skills and excellent cooperation within a team
    • Ability to work in a matrix environment, highly effective communication skills (written and verbal)
    • Native or conversational capability in at least two major languages from, i.e. English, French, Spanish or Swahili

    Desired Characteristics:

    • High academic standing desirable, first class academic average preferred
    • Self-motivated and entrepreneurial individual that has an ability to execute with minimum supervision
    • Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding environment
    • Exceptional problem-solving skills
    • Ability to interpret large amounts of data and to multi-task
    • Strong communication and presentation skills; Exceptional PowerPoint and writing skills
    • Ability to work effectively in team environments
